Front fender?

Are the front fenders different on say my 1962 and a newer 70's fj?


I think I have the newer fenders on my truck because they do not fit tight to the body on the side above the running board.



If they are different does anybody reproduce the correct fenders? Or does anybody have a descent set for sale.

they should all fit... some of the accessories holes might be different, but I would guess you need to do some adjusting... took me about 4 hours to get mine close enough

I got a new set "made in taiwan" quite a few years ago...they never fit right...and now they are like swiss cheese.

Would you happen to have numbers and prices for '72 fenders?

Last I checked Toyota wanted $250 ea. Driver side only. Pass side is discontinued...Go figure.

Were you able to get all 4 of the frame mounting bolts in? My 63 FJ40 frame has a smaller bolt hole pattern than the 74 fenders I tried to mount. I believe I could only get 2 bolts started, but can not remember which ones.

drill them out to fit... really.... its that easy...

I was wondering about this gap here if it is normal. I found another truck with the same gap.

I just talked to a friend at Toyota. He could only find new fenders as far back as 1969. I ordered 2 new ones, I will know in the morning if they are still available.

All Kick Vent Panels have that step where panel lines up with fender.

Those are not mine, I found that pic in another thread. Looks like when I get my fenders I have some cutting and welding on the tub to get rid of that huge gap. Not a big deal with some of the other body mods I have planed.

Toyota designed that gap to be there, why would you remove it? EVERY FJ40 has it - its the shape of the tub. It prevents the fender from bending the tub if it gets whacked or you're doing something twisty.

I guess I am fussy, I hate huge gaps on anything I build. I welded on the door edges of my wifes car when I built it to get the door gaps exactly the same all around. I will set the fenders and front clip when I get them and see how it looks before I do any modifying.

Why? It I fill it in, it will look the same all the way from top to bottom?

it is your truck... what are you going to do about the other lines then? where the side meets the cowl, that is usually the worst looking line?
