That's a nice kit for that price, wish I had welding skills. It's a nice looking one.

Both mentioned by OP are good. Personally, without comparing the function of each, I like the Slee look.

Given those choices, I would go slee. Just seems sturdier built and better clearance. I like the look better than ARB too.

But I'm too cheap for either, so I'll probably cobble together my own

We have a mint condition ARB 5211160220 bumper for a 1990-1997 Toyota Land Cruiser. It has not been used off road or ever had a winch on it. We got it not realizing how massive it was and I think we are going for something smaller. This bumper was $998 new and is only 2 months old, comes with everything you need, I can help you put it on if you want but my tools and knowledge are limited.

I have both. I prefer the arb on my low/wide lx and the slee on my stripped down Lexota.

It kind of depends what you're asking out of it as well. Do you want clearance for larger tires and crawling, or are you sticking with more modest tires? I'm a big fan of Slee products, run his 4" suspension with branded shocks and radius arms, however I'm not a fan of the bow-tie look of his front bumper. It also wouldn't fit my Warn Zeon12 (as far as I know). I went with 4x4 labs, probably won't help much with deer but I easily clear 37's.

I went with slee because I wanted something strong. My existing is pretty beat up and gross looking for running into snow banks. I wanted something sort of optimized for that.

If it matters, Slee doesn't fit a 12K Warn. But highly doubt it does since you started as a winchless ARB buyer.

I hate how thin the metal is on a ARB & the 'recovery points' are more like 'shipping eyes', but the loop is bigger for deer strikes.

If Christo made the Shortbus capable of a Warn M12K, I'd have bought one long ago. I'm where a little extra room there beats approach angle.

If there's ever a redesign, I'd pitch my ARB.

4X4 labs is another solid choice of front bumpers and in the same price /quality range.

ARB typically has the most advanced aftermarket engineered bumpers. They are crash tested by Arb. While not the best for rock crawling, in a collision a arb will absorb impact and will bend before bending the frame. So in a fairly hard wreck the arb will bend and take the impact rather than being so ridged that you get a bent frame, which is far more difficult to repair. In a collision, proper energy absorption is important. ARB is a big enough company to design for this. Most aftermarket bumpers are just made to look cool with heavy gauge steel but not collision tested and often will bend the frame in a collision. If it's mostly Street driven, I would get a arb, if mostly offroaded I would get whatever is beefy and gives good tire clearance and recovery points.

Very nice points thanks fellows! I took a look at the BIOR tube bumper and it kind of growing on me a little. Love the 4x4 labs but don't want to take on the challenge of moving the AC. Plus shipping on the 4x4 labs bumper is why too expensive.
