Anyone have any experience with using a fridge/freezer behind the 3rd row? In my 80 I have kids in each row, so a proper sized unit won't work. I am getting tired of dealing with coolers and ice. The space is slim with only 13" between the top of the tailgate and the back seat, so I need something narrow.

Looks like the Engel MT17 and MT27 should work, anyone use one or know of other narrow fridge/freezers?

You're going to have some trouble, cause the one thing about the fridge freezers is the height. I have a NL
50 Weekender, and it is narrow but quite tall. You're just going to have to go through them one at a time
and look at the specs.

I had an older Norcold MRFT-330 that fit behind the 3rd row seats. It wold also fit behind the first row. The unit is pretty small though.

If you're ambitious Norcold sells the cooling unit and you could build your own box to fill the whole space

I have a dometic 23l that should fit. They are small, so might want to get 2. But is great for a day trip or over night

I have the Norcold version of the MT17, while small it works great and I can still pack enough food for a family of 3 for an extended weekend trip. It also draws very little power. On setting 2 it will freeze stuff so I leave it around setting 1 almost all the time and run it off my main cranking battery.

This is awesome, I need to do more research on the TruckFridges and the derivatives.

Per this, the larger Dometic here might also work? My 80 is out of town, can't verify measurements for a while but would be great to know if this looks to work. ?

Based on the dimensions it looks like the 23Qt would actual fit with room to spare.

Matt - your link above is still the CDF-11 (10.5 liter model), FYI. The 23 quart (CDF-25) is here for reference.
  • The CDF-25 does look promising, let us know if you pick it up. I'm in the same boat you are, long-live the third row seats :).
  • Per Amazon's listings lower down on that page, their naming convention/numbering scheme is a bit wacked but....what else is new?
    • CDF-11 = 10.5 L - OK
    • CDF-018 = 18L - OK
    • CDF-025 = 23L - ?
    • CDF-035 = 31L - ?
    • etc.....
  • I'm seeing two sets of dimensions for the 025 (23L) model on that page, both would presumably fit behind the third row but this type of inconsistency/inaccuracy is the sort of thing that drives me nuts:
    • Product Dimensions - 24 x 12 x 20 inches (Technical Details section)
    • 22" x 17" x 10" (further down underneath the model graphics)
Are you running a second battery or looking to power off the main?

cya!

In case there is genuine interest in the Dometico units, direct from the manufacturer's website (yes, the 025 (23 liter capacity) unit would fit just fine):
