Did a little elk scouting today and manual transmission tutoring. Great day to be in the woods. Planning on flipping the springs and removing the top tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Got the springs flipped. The added wheelbase looks better with the hacked up quarters. We’re adding 4Plus flares that’ll just cover up all the quarter panel hostilities. Then we can just patch up the back portion without doing the whole thing. Anyways we’ll get some before and after pics when it’s all done. Here’s the stock driveshaft before it went under the knife. Our new flange to flange measurement will be about 25”.

Here’s a couple before and after shots of the wheelbase slide. Flipped the springs and shocks and added 4Plus flares to hide all the quarter panel desecration. It rides a little nicer too. I like how it turned out. Still lots of rust on the back but now that’ll be a “simple” patch as opposed to remove/replace quarters.

Memorial Day weekend was perfect Land Cruisin weather looking for elk, cooking out, mountain bike racing, and mud wrestling.

Alright ya’ll updates. We didn’t sign up for SAS early enough so we had a family reunion at Purgatory Ski Resort instead. A great time was had by all. Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.

Little Freeborn in The USA update. Since the top is off we’re repainting and repairing the doors and hardtop sides. We might get to the hood and grill too if we’re ambitious. Lots of stripper and sanding so far. Not terribly exciting. Here’s where we’re at so far. Any advice?

I use these on an angle grinder. They make pretty quick work of removing paint and rust. Places with a lot of contours I used stripper. Too bad the EPA screwed us and eliminated methylene chloride from it. Barely works now.

Henry was able to negotiate an unpaid internship at a local body shop. He’s been in sweeping and weeding and in exchange he’s being taught how to do bodywork. Here’s some pics. They were able to patch up the rust pitting with some fiberglass and rehab it from the inside.

He had to go back in the blocking process and make sure all the drain holes were clear. Turned out well enough for his first time…especially considering it’ll be covered by weatherstripping. Here’s the primer process. Paint this week! Freeborn Red Baby!
