Hey all,

Bit late to the party posting this as it’s getting closer to completion, but I figured some people might be interested. I’ve been on here a while, I’ve just been more of a reader than a poster. Will try harder :)

I’ve had my 80 since 2010 and I’m the second owner. The first owner and his wife towed caravan around Australia with it a ton of times, so it’s has over 600,000km on it. A couple of years ago I decided to give it a birthday starting with the suspension and tyres, then made my own bars and fitted a Mark’s part time kit.

Last year I was approached by Burson Auto Parts here as they wanted to support a build in my YouTube channel HoonTV. I pitched the crazy idea that I wanted to turn it into a panel van and right now with the help of some great friends, it’s about a week away from firing up with the new 6-litre engine combo.

To check out the build, you can go to the build playlist in the channel, or follow HoonTV on Instagram.

love the hood - how'd you do that?

It’s from a company called Blits Bonnets. They’re awesome quality and work very well at dropping under bonnet temperature.

They’re fully certified and they ship globally. Tell them HoonTV sent you

So I watched some of the videos. But did you leave the doors shells intact completely?
I presume you removed the door rubber seals. Are the doors frame only held in place
by skin welds or did you gusset the inner door as well?

All of the rubbers and window frames were removed. They're welded completely and have additional gussets for strength on the inside.

So the door bottoms were retained but the window frames removed?
Sure looks good,

Thanks, now I see how you did it. Could really get lost in videos here.

Now I’m getting nitpicking. What size Cleco rivets did you use?
I’m supposing metric. I double checked, your metric sheetmetal for the sides
1.9 mm is 14 ga for us North Americans. I used same galvenealed coated when
I rebuilt my FJ40 tub. That is thick!

To be honest I can’t remember, maybe 3mm. I have my own Clecos, but these belonged to Tore at the workshop.

It was my choice to go thicker with the sheet. My theory is that it’d form the natural curve better, but It’d also be way more dent resistant.

Definitely more dent resistant, and less likely to pop or twist with vehicle
movement. Before I ever saw your build I was thinking how to panel my 60.
I have a sheet of the same sheetmetal you used, but how to make it secure was my
issue. Now your build has shown me the way! I never leave anything stock.
The look is perfect on your truck.

Thanks man, appreciate it

That looks good

You're messing with my head on this one. Just watched getting ready for SummerNats since I'm more interested in the interior
and panel portion.
Couple of questions - Why cut the rear interior door panel on the LH side but not the RH side? Safety for the driver? Structure?
Nice roll bar. It's just attached to the floor correct?
I really liked that roll of sound deadener. Here in Canada we make NOICO brand, which I did my 60 with an its in the squares,
a roll might have been easier.
Why the high lift jack in the back? Of all the options, that are lighter more user friendly and practical.
I'm enjoying the build videos, they are interesting.

Good questions

The rear door skin was cut out as an afterthought. Either way it’s getting trimmed again with a panel, so the other side will get cut out to match. It offers no structural help.

The Car Builders stuff is very good to work with!

The high lift jack is from the build sponsor. You’re right, it is overkill.

Many thanks for watching, latest video is up now

So what is the final video? Too many to figure out
