When I bought my 1972 fj40, I received some parts, one was a four speed, with bell housing. Are there any identification numbers on the transmission ? Trying to find out what years it will fit. Thanks

Pictures of what you have would clarify you have. Most likely a 74-7/80 four speed and matching bellhousing but but more than one four speed. Plus different output shaft as well as input shaft. Even if the 74-7/80 four speed could be two different gear sets.

Here are some pictures, the bell housing is for this transmission

Here are some pictures of the bell housing, missing the ball the throw out bearing arm connects to.

Thanks everyone for the help, I know it’s hard with out seeing it, but I have no plans on using these and after looking on the classified list there seems to a large range in price, any options on the price i should ask?

I've got a 9/75 with what I believe is the stock 4 speed it was "born" with and there's no side plate so I'll side with @brian on this one. Definitely early FJ40 4-speed.

the bellhousing is probably worth more than the transmission.

The inspection cover for the bottom maybe even more valuable. But if you look at the transmission tailshaft it has very minor wear compared to many.

When I got my 73 FST it has one of these early four speeds and bellhousing in the back along with a spare F engine. It too has a tailshaft with no wear signs.

I maybe wrong. There's a transmission and transfer from an april 75 in the garage that I didn't think had the pto cover on it...it does actually have one on it.
For some reason I had thought that change coincided with the low range gear change in the transfer.

The PTO cover really doesn't matter since nothing that would bolt to it was never offered. Really the gasket for the rear retainer is what does matter. Sounds like 4/75 or 4/76 the early gasket kit with one less bolt for the rear retainer will have the side gasket. Have the opening can replace the gasket. Solid just have a extra gasket.

So with that bell housing, will that transmission fit all F and 2F engines?
