Can you explain that some more? When you say desmogged doe sthat mean cat removed? What else?

Sorry I'm late getting back on these questions. I thought I was subscribed to the thread, but I was subscribed with no email notification (how does that differ from not subscribed  )

Anyway, the desmog is like this. Several years ago R. Adams picked J. Chenoweth's brain about how to desmog a cruiser. The information he received he recorded by altering a schematic from the 2F Emission Manual. I obtained this schematic, but could make little sense of it, really. So I parked side by side by R. Adams cruiser, and we went to work, copying his "J. Chenoweth approved" desmog. To facilitate this process for other schematic-challanged cruiserheads, I started a website to document, in simple terms, how this was done. Life got in the way and the website never got entirely finished, but it details most of the vacuum line routing. It can be accessed by the same link as above.

Regarding the cat. The cat is not removed on this truck. Really, it should be. I had trouble obtaining a "test pipe" since those are now illegal. Instead, I have the old cat from the truck (not rusty as it's a SW US truck) which could be hollowed out quite easily, or one could use the flanges from it to make a test pipe.

Hope this helps...

How does it run on the highway? In other words would it make to Denver along I70???
What were your thoughts for desmogging it?

It does fine on the highway, except I would be inclined to have the alignment performed prior to a long trip to alleviate a vibration it has. Other than that, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it a distance. If you are interested, we can work it out such that the alignment is already done when you pick it up.

Nice looking truck. Wondering about tires: size, type, wear...

Nick

Thanks, Nick. The truck has 2 Dunlop Radial Rover RV tires, 31x10.50R15LT's. They will need replacement in the next 10K or so. There are 2 Kelly Safari AWR tires, also 31x10.50R15LT's. They are in great shape, with greater than 1/4 tread all the way around, and very even tread wear.

Thanks,
Reid

I just bought another car. I now have 3 for me, 1 for my significant other. It's too many. I've lowered the price to $2100.

It sounds like the number of half day fixes won't have any affect on a drive across the plains.
You said that there is an oil leak when it sits. How much? How much oil does it burn? Add a certain amount at each fill up?
Thanks for the update.

Trade me something. A motorcycle, landcruiser parts?

Buy this truck. My wife will thank you.

I hear ya Texx. I've already gone there with him on that, says that he needs the cash for life incidentals, not the bills. He's coming up to my house today actually, so I'll try again.

Actually, he is moving to Utah, so he will need a solid 4wd. I'm trying to convince him to get a 40 with some of the cash from this sale. That's probably a long shot.

Been there..done that. I had a '94 D90 for about 18 months, I dropped over $7000.00 in that thing for repairs. The Defender spent 4 months of my 18 months owning it, in the shop.

Fun truck no doubt, but it's just a Land Rover with the Prince of Darkness running it.

I am always amazed at those that have problems with them. My wife has a 94 Range Rover, same basic drivetrain, a few more electrics. One of the most reliable vehicles I have been around. Always ready to rumble, but yeah, the Prince of Darkness can get irritating sometimes.

83 FJ60 W/ V8 & 5 spd Tranny <project>

I have an 83 Fj 60 with a new venture 5 speed tranny and a chevy 305 V8.

This truck is sold as is, since it does not have a Colorado E-Test.

I put about $11k into the truck. There is an issue in the fuel system that causes the truck to bog down on hot days or after driving for a while. I have had it in and out of shops, but the only remedy seems to be replacing the wiring harness or the fuel system. I can't afford to put any more money into the truck...

I NEED TO SELL ASAP> I Will consider all serious offers.

Please send inquiries and / or photo requests to michael.lee@mac.com

You can also check out images of the truck at http://homepage.mac.com/michael.lee/PhotoAlbum1.html
