Any of you guys out there have parking brake mounted on floor? What doner vehicle did you pull it from? How did you adapt the cable to work with the parking brake drum on the drive shaft?

Pictures would be great!

Thanks!

+1, my 12/79 build 1980 has one from the factory. Would be super easy to convert an earlier one, just get the metal cup or pocket the handle & mechanism goes in and cut a hole in your floor to fit. You can see mine at a LSLC meeting some time.

why

The main reason is I'm just looking for an inexpensive solution. There is currently no brake pedal/mechanism, no brake cable and the hole in the firewall has been welded up. I can buy all the parts I need easy enough, I just dont want to spend $70 to $100 doing it when we can go over tot he pick n pull and get the parts for $10.

Any help is appreciated!

The FJ40 from a 1/79 to 8/80 had the floor mounted brake handle to the hand brake on the back of the tranfer. Start 8/80 (81 model) the cable ran to the rear axle where the hand brake moved to with the start of the Split case transfer cases.

Not a good pic but you can see it to the left of the seat.(excuse all the wiring I was putting it back together) came out of a small import.

My 1980 HJ40 (formerly BJ40) came with the parking brake mounted on the floor from the factory as well.

The pull and the mounting cup can be had from pretty much any cruiser, then you need a cable from a 1979 or 1980 - put the parts in and enjoy. Floor mounts are much nicer than firewall mounts for hill starts.

I find it better to have my right hand close to the steering wheel and the hand throttle while wheeling - although I just avoid hill starts as much as possible; but it's mostly just a matter of what you are used to, I guess :meh:

i put 79 parking brake setups in my 69 and 70 .have to cut hole in floor but used all 79 parts and the work good for me.

I think there may be some confusion on what I'm asking. I'm not specifically looking to move my parking brake from the dash set up to the floor brake set up. I'm completely indifferent on that. What I am looking for is an inexpensive alternative to the Landcruiser Dash and/or floor mount. Just thinking from an expense stand point....for wahtever reason it bothers me to think of shelling out a wad of cash on a stinking parking brake that I could put towards my disc brake conversion or other mod. instead.

I really appreciate everyones feedback, but I'm really asking if someone has used, say for example, a honda, Ford Fucus, Mazda or some other small car with a hand brake from a parts yard for $10 instead of going back with the factory set up.

Thanks again! Always grateful for the knowlege/expereince on the forum!

i had the whole setup on ebay for 10.00 bucks and it didnt sell post up in the wanted section and you can probably get what you need fairly cheap and it will bolt in .

I like that fj60 handle mounted on the outboard side instead of giving up the console spot. Is that a custom job? details please

I have a parking brake lever you can have, just pay for shipping. Then just buy the cable. It would probably be easier than trying to make something work that might not work properly.

PM me if interested.

i used a lever, bucket, cable and rear axle from an 84 BJ60. i just cut the appropriate sized hole in the transmission hump and bolted the entire thing down. the wider BJ60 rear axle was installed first, then I thought why not use the factory E brake as well?
