I figured I would post some updates on the 40. The budbuilt sides are awesome and can't wait to bang them on some rocks. I ordered the "Matt from Vegas cut" and he new exactly what I was talking about. There where a few things that I needed to change on the sides that I thought I would share. First the sides are short in the front by about 3", Matt must have cut his rockers off. If you have a full rocker panel you will need to add in a piece, no big deal. For the rear doors I ended up adding in a piece on the top so my doors would bolt on the sides. I didn't want to cut the hinges out on the panel and again not that big of deal. The biggest pain was drilling the 4.5 in hole for the new LED's.

I POR-15 the inside of the sides so I dont have to worry about rust issues. I figured once a year I can take off the sides and clean. I just primed and rattle canned the outside of easy touch up, over all I am very happy with the sides.

The rear seat is kind of being a huge pain. I think I am on about plan F and still not done but close. I have went from being really compliated to just working. The hieght is still an issue but I have to give up something for what I want it to do. The kids are really the only ones that ride back there and I can fit at 5'10" but my head is about 2" from cage. It will have one large compartment under the seat for my tool box and winch bag that I can get to from the front in case of a break down that I can't open the rear swing out. I will still use the box I built before since it works. Here are some pics from early on.

So next on the list will be the hydro assist steering after the seat is all done. This one will take awhile since the 40 fund has been disolved by the :princess:.

New project for the 40.

Should be the last axle project you do for the rear. Nice choice.

Well the 14 bolt was a faliure for now due to the PO putting the spindle nut on cross threaded and ruined the spindle so I have to wait to find a housing to cut off the end. So that leads me to fixing the rear third on the 40. I have some credit at justdiffs (thanks Carl) so now the question is do I go back with a Lockrite or just pay the diff and go with a Detroit. I don't have all the extra cash for a ARB due to going to Cruise Moab and BHCC this year so budget is short. Will I be happier with the Detroit over the Lockrite? It only lasted about 2yrs and really kinda bothered me some with the loading and unloading. So those that have first hand knowledge please post up as of know I think I am leaning towards the Detoit.

Nice, I'll get to meet you at CM13. What trails have you signed up for?

It will be nice to put some faces to the people we talk to on here. If I get the trails I put in for I will run
Hells on Thursday
Moab Rim on Fri
Pritchett Canyon on Sat
Since I have never been there I took some advise from some friends that have and they all seemed to think this was a solid plan:meh:

I drilled all the holes in my corners. They are a really nice product.

Does your 16x8 with 2.5 backspace stick out alot? I'm looking at the same one from summits. If you have a picture shown the stance would be great. Thanks

They are 17x8 and yea they stick out a bit but I really like the stance. It feels really stable on the trails in off camber positions. There are quite a few pics in the thread with the stance but I can try to find one tomorrow.

Thanks for the link nutley

I am going to hold off on the 14 till later down the road when I can take my time and have some more cash flow. I did install a detroit and think it is going to be a lot nicer than the Lockrite I had before. I was surprised on how much I had to grind the ring gear to clearance the large pin. It's in and the the 40 is off the jack stands so I am happy. Now to fix some little things and wait till Moab:clap:

Any thoughts on CB's I see I need to have one for Moab and I have no clue on what brand or style?

Get an average CB radio, nothing fancy, but get a good antenna. Then tune it.

Ham is much better and where it's worth spending more money although you need a license to operation on 2M which is not hard to get.

I could not agree more about ham radio.

As for cb, I've had luck with my cheap cobra and 4' firestick antenna.

I found a Uniden Pro 520xl that comes with a 4' Fierstik and mounting braket for about 140.00. I have read some reviews and seems to be pretty good. Is there any specifc model of Cobra or others to look for?

If your looking to save space and ease of mounting go with a Cobra 75 WXST. If you don't have access to anyone with a tuner, we can get it tuner when you are at BHCC.

That's what I run and I've never had an issue. IMO Uniden makes the best cheap CB. I usually find them on sale for around $30 - $50 and do a cheapie truck stop antenna and coax...

Thanks Brian I will look into the cobra and might hit you up when we get to SD. We should arrive on Monday:clap: that week. I would like to knock out Hal Johns before classic. I really want to do the waterfall and not have it on a trail day with lots of rigs just in case things go south, don't wanna be a anchor.

Hey its Caleb, good to hear you will be at BHCC this year! i would go run the waterfall with you on monday, but I sold my 4Runner! I am working on my wife's 97 limited now. I want to do it up baja/expedition style with front and rear bumpers, sliders and roof rack. We really want to make it to cruise moab this year too, maybe we will see you there. heck if we keep in touch and time it right we could probly meet somewhere on the way and follow each other down. I also started my own business about a month ago too, so hopefully finances will provide us to make it to cruise moab. Check out my website www.c4fabrication.com and I also have a facebook page for the business too. If you have facebook, like my page and you can keep up on what im working on! http://www.facebook.com/pages/C4-Fabrication/454285357953823#!/pages/C4-Fabrication/454285357953823
