I picked up some FJC 17" alloys dirt cheap, but as it turns out, these wheels are hub centric w/ mag style lug nuts. I ordered the 1.5" lug centric spacers from spidertrax to take care of the backspace issue, but now I'm concerned about being able to center the hubcentric wheels on the lugcentric spacers (according to spidertrax, the hubcentric spacers don't fit FJ60 hubs). There is a lot of debate on this issue (especially with the fjz80 hosers ;)), but has anyone had issues running hub centric wheels on lug centric spacers on a FJ60? I'd love to hear from the guys running this setup to see how they got around this issue and if they are having any problems. Thanks! Oh, and here's a pic of the spacers:

Considering there is no way to center a hub centric wheel on the back of a semifloating Cruiser axle, you already have all of the necessary parts, I'd try it and not worry about it...

My 60's rims are mag style with the shouldered lug nuts. No spacer, but it is essentially the same..

On my 55, I used the Spidertrax in the back and Trail Gear spacers in the front. The FJC rim just cleared the front hubs so that is what centered them. The Spidertrax have an inset or chamfer cut on the back side that let them fit over the rear hub and then they have the lip for hub centric rims. Worked well. I don't believe the Spidertrax will work on the front due to this feature.

I'm about to do the same with my BTJ60 project.

thanks guys

nice looking rims on the 55. glad to hear you guys have run this setup without problems. i'm probably over thinking it, but since i use the 60 for family trips, i want to make sure everything is kosher. i'll try the wheels this weekend and post some pics.

got the wheels on

The spacers fit up really well. Here are the fronts:

I used three cone style lug nuts to get the wheel centered, put three of the mag style nuts on, took the cone nuts off and put the rest of the mag style lug nuts on and tightened them all to 75 ft-lbs. The shake down test went well- no perceptible vibrations all the way up to 70mph. And, to top it off, I think they look great!

The tires came with the wheels, so I'll get a few miles out of them while I save up for some M/T's

Are those man a fre flares?

I'm still really nervous about running spacers on a highway driven DD. I'd love to have FJC wheels, but I just wouldn't see it happening for me.

Maybe if I got a FF rear and a set of hub centric spacers (so it'd be hub centric at all four corners) I'd consider it, but I still see it as a possible failure point.

BTW what are the specs on FJC wheels?

They were installed by the PO, but I'm pretty sure they are from JTOutfitters.

The stock wheels are supported by the lug nuts/wheel studs and by the friction created at the hub/wheel interface. No different with mag style wheels. Even with hub-centric spacers, you'd still be supporting the spacers and wheels off the existing wheel studs and friction created between the hub and spacer. So, the way I see it, the only issue is centering the wheel. After installing as detailed above, I am happy with the results. I was definitely nervous before I installed everything, so I understand where you are coming from. Hopefully a few more people will chime in with their $0.02.
Edit: FJC Alloy specs 17x7.5 with 4.75" backspace. I got this from another post, so you may want to verify.

Spook, I have ran spacers on steelies for 3 or 4 years now..w/o any problems.
1.5" on the front and 2" on the rear..

Yeah I just realized that FJC wheels would need 2.25" spacers to work with what I'm wanting to accomplish (and the wheels are still damned expensive), so I ditched my long, rambling post :D

That's way too much spacer for me to be comfortable in any situation.

Just to clarafiy...you used the hub centric spacer on the rear axle for the fjcruiser wheels? I've got some black steel 17 inch FJ cruiser wheels and on the front they work fine. On the rear they don't mate up correctly with the spacers I had with the rock crawler wheels which I assume are "lug centric" the lip of the wheel on the fj cruiser wheel dose not seem to mate correctly with the lug centric type spacer (is this the magic question?...and the solution is to run hub centric spacer on the rear axle?)

I may order some custom wheels but for now I would like to use the FJ cruiser wheels to run some 35 tires..which I need to space out about an inch to keep from kissing the inside rear axel fender welll...which when I do hit it..it like to shave rubber off the tires (sharp edge).

I know this is an old post..but old info is good as is new info..

From memory, the FJC Steelies are lug centric and require the acorn style lug nuts instead of the shank style used with the aluminum FJC wheels. The steelies with the right lug nuts should work with either type of spacers (Trail Gear or Spidertrax).

ok..I found I had an issue with my 1 inch spacers I needed to use on the rear axle...to keep my rear tire from hard scrubbing the inside fender well.

Depending on tire size....you would need to space the FJCruiser wheel out some. I think on a 10.5 wide tire you would be good...on a 12.5 wide tire its a problem and a spacer is required for tire clearance. Wheel mounts fine otherwise.
