already in the scrap bin in Japan...
Well seeing there is no pics and the old fire truck bed is in the bin ,Ill show some pics of how they do it with aussie landcruiser fire trucks.
They make the whole lot as a lift on/off module that can be transferred to a new cab chassis in no time at all
See,you would never even know. This was sold off with 28000klms and was a 95 I think and was from the country volunteer fire brigade.
so after conversing with Bruce this morning the firetruck will now get a dump bed installed on the back once it comes over here... that should make it more useable around the acreage...
yes, a tipping bed. i have not built one of these before so that will keep my interest for a bit.
Rosco, that idea of a bolt on firebox is EXACTLY what i pictured but not what it was. the problem with the bolt on firebox is the change of production. when the trucs went from a 75 series to a 79 series the bounts and wheel openings changed...but it does make it much easier for someone like me to dream my silly dreams...
Geez Rosco, I can't believe they put Hankook Dynamics on a fire truck!! thought they would need something better than that. Good scheme about fitting things on the original mounts sure makes it easy when you change trucks. Looks like the rear mounts were unused?? What was on it??

When was the last time a cruiser project went on budget for anyone?
So whats next, will you get it back to its original mount spacing etc?
now ain't that the truth?!?! estimated costs seldom match actuall costs...one person (my dad) told me once "when budgeting for a project, take you estimate and double it...and then add some more"
boy was he ever right...
"its original mount spacing"?? not sure what you mean...
actually i was going fully original before we got into the removal of the firebox. once the costs headed upward then the idea of having just a cool truck was pitched out the window and practicality hadto take over (or a divorce would be in the making). a tilt deck for hauling wood, gravel, rubish makes much more sense ...
The tractor driver on our farm has a cruser like that with a tip deck, it is an electric motor running a hydralic pump.
One idea that you may want to consider ifyou take this way is that he uses a double acting ram this way he can tip like normal, but to shift one of the duels for the tractor he can put the deck up, lean the tyre against it , tie it on then use the ram to pull the tyre onto the deck, very helpful!!!!
the truck is now in Montreal...
should be able to finally stick my ass in the seat for the first time in the next couple weeks...
what a memory Rosco!
yes, i am leaving the 3F in it. those old motors ran for a very long time so if i take into consideration the cost of a swap vs the fuel savings... and the idea i have nothing against a gasser ...it stays.
yep, back to building a tray. alloy, similar to the one i had almost finished for the PZJ75. also have a few more ideas to try out.
should be fun.
