So the other night I noticed I had lost a headlight. No big deal right. I went and got some new Silverstars this weekend to put in, and replaced the right side one first, since that was the one that was out I wanted to compare the SS's to the ol' standard halogens. Well I got it in and put the grille bezel back in, and hit the switch, and still nothing. I then wondered if the two lights were on seperate fuses, and discovered that they are, so checked the right side fuse, and it was good. Swapped it out just for kicks to no avail. Despite my abilities, I am not afraid to admit that electrical diagnostic is my weakness. My question: Is it safe to assume that since the right and left lights are on their own fuses, are they also on seperate relays, or is the headlight relay common to the two? If it's not a relay issue, then I guess it will require digging into the wiring and running some tests.

yes separate relays as well to my knowledge.

There's a single relay that provides power to all the headlights, so if any of your headlights are working, then it's not the relay.

Do the high beams work on that side?

Discovered last night that the low beam comes on when I turn on the high beams, and goes back out when I turn the highs off.
Most likely a bad connection or broken wire?

I would check the grounds..

On my last FJ62, my lights drove me crazy and it was the same thing.. a ground was loose.

I know this is an old thread but I am having the same issue at the moment.

I have high beams on both sides. When on low beams, the passenger side light goes out.

Not really sure where to even start since I have the mechanical aptitude of a monkey with club. That may be generous....

Man there is no room to work around those head lights for guys with big paws!

How do I identify a ground wire?
