I have a strong runner that I pulled out of mine at 210000mi.
Had plans to go to the Cape this August, but does not seem likely at this point.
Philly isn't too long a haul tho...

Aaron thanks for the reply, I'm looking for a place that specializes in FJ62 as I'm considering a possible refurb at the same time

In New England, no name pops to mind for a shop that specializes in Land Cruiser restos/mods...not like out West at least...

There was a guy, went by the name Poor Wally, who might have done some of this type of work, but not sure he's still in the game. Here's a really old thread, see post #4 for contact info:

EDIT:

This might be the same guy:

Review: Outstanding with 60 s and 40 s. Does Tubs and practically anything else

There's also CruiserParts in NH, but I doubt that they do the type of resto/mod work that you are probably looking for...but if you give them a call maybe they could give you a list of shops in NE that do that type of work specializing in Land Cruisers...

Also, check the 'Cruiser Mechanics Listed by States' thread here:

Do it yourself!

Cruisermatt wish I could but it's beyond me, thinking of shipping it to TLC4x4 for the resto

In that case, on the West Coast there is also Georg (@orangefj45 ) at Valley Hybrid in Stockton (up near SF) and Torfab (@torfab ) in Seattle...

Here's Torfab at work on a current project:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/bean-my-fj60-build-and-adventure.794299/page-5

And if you go back to that Poor Wally link I put up above, if you go to the last post (most recent post) of that thread, it looks like there was a MUD member who went to Poor Wally this summer! If you shoot him a PM, he might be able to give you the lowdown on what Wally's up to...

Thanks I wil try and reach out to Poor Wally a lot closer than LA

ya got some jelousy drippin off yer lip there...

Actually, it's not so much an aversion to 62 than an aversion to 4wd automatic transmission. I am still on this earth because of Toyota Landcruiser 4wd manual transmission 'engine braking' capabilities...driving down nasty little mountain roads...in nasty conditions...

that's why you gotta stick an H42 behind the 3FE;) ( we can't all afford the 5 speed...) the manual really wakes up that platform. course, I also have manual doors and windows on my late 87 FJ62, so it's not terribly different from an fj60- just doses the fuel better, and square headlight are brighter:p

Yeah, totally into the -E upgrade (either 2fE or straight up 3FE), but I'm actually leaning more towards trying to put a feedback loop onto my existing 2F...just for tuning the carb...

This recent thread/work by @Yspen caught my interest:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/new-exhaust-setup-leading-to-different-afr.814793/

...and since the carb is precise in it's 'tunability' but lacks in accuracy that EFI has as far as tuning for overall performance, I'm wondering if using the Air/Fuel ratio measurements of the Commando (oxygen sensor) as a metric to set the 2F carb accurately might be the best way to go in the near term...and maybe even try some performance upgrades...like larger exhaust pipes or take the valves out some...

I'm kind of stuck right now until I can get the plan/resources to go diesel with the 60...then I feel like I'll be able to align my personal expectation from the options available here in the States with that same level of existential trust.

It's not all that bad at the moment, since the 60 is meeting the requirements for my current circumstances, but it would be nice to 'get there' and have that platform that I know I can not only trust, but believe in for those moments when faith in my own capabilities as an operator waver. Afterall, it is for this reason alone that I drive a Land Cruiser.

The only place that comes to mind is this older Japanese guy named Mike who ran a Toyota specialty shop on Glenville Ave, about one building east of Harvard Ave in Allston-Brighton. I can't remember the name of his place. It was something like Allston Imports. He was good but and was slightly more expensive, but had trained in Japan to work on Yotas. Kind of like a proper sushi chef is trained in Japan.

I don't know if he is still in business or not. I didn't see the shop pop up on google earth.

If you need an engine rebuild, just find a good engine rebuilder. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to overhaul these motors. I did mine, and had no issues. Real simple, 1940's technology. Any good mechanic can do it.

BTW, I am selling the 3FE and tranny out of my FJ 62. Engine has less than 5K on a fresh rebuild. Going to do a vortec swap. Posting in classifieds soon. Contact me if interested. I am in Denver, CO.
