Hello I'm trying to figure out how much of a challenge it would be for me to take the whole body off of my 62 and put it on a bj/hj 60 frame. If anyone has any advice they can give I'd appreciate it.

Rust? You're going to be replacing all of the consumable parts at the same time, brake lines, fuel lines, coolant lines and body mounts and bolts. Get all this stuff first,
Do you have a shop at home? Doing it all yourself? Floor jack and jack stands.
Have you seen the other threads of this being done? Have you a way to lift the body?
My buddy is getting set up to replace a frame on his BJ60. His intention is to get new springs, run brake lines and fuel lines and essentially have a rolling frame ready to go before he starts the change over. Then its body mounts, bolts and it should happen in fairly short order.

I have all the tools necessary and I can lift the body when I have to. Getting those parts should not be a problem and there is no rust to deal with. Do you happen to know how many parts the body comes off in? Also do all the mounts line up with a 60 series frame?

As far as I know the mounts should all line up. Do you have the other frame already?

No I don't have the other frame yet. The goal is to save up and buy a diesel 60 with a bad body but good mechanicals. I would like to build a bj62 or hj62 basically. I just don't like the hassle of the engine swap because I'm not so good with remembering where everything goes, and certainly don't want to deal with any wiring. Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it. I'm just trying to learn, and build my rig without breaking the bank. If you have any other tips I'm eager to learn.

I remove the front clip as a unit, easy with a cherry picker and a pair of short slings

I pull the body with the lift. I can not say for exact certainty that all the body mounts are in the same place. @beno would know. As stated above, have all your ducks in a row on the roller before you go pulling the donor body.

I can tell you from experience that getting all the body mounts in one place is not easy. Beno has tracked down a couple sets for me piece meal and sent me the whole set at once. Plan accordingly.
I would also consider replacing all hard and soft lines while you have it in roller stage, so much easier.

Put the roller on dollies once under the body, makes final lining up go much smoother. I drop plumb bobs from body mounts on diagonal corners and then lower from there. It really is not that difficult if you have access to a lift.

Thanks for your help and beautiful cruiser. That looks like it'll be a huge job with my current set up, so it'll probably take me a very long time to do something like this. Do you think it's worth it? My cruisers body is very good and the frame is also very good. I've just always loved the diesels, especially the 3b. We have a few cruisers in our collection (all diesels except mine) and I have to say I much prefer them. That being said, I'm not sure orbits worth the work and money.

If I hear you right, you're thinking of a frame swap in order to install a diesel?

Yes basically. With my setup it's very easy to lose things, and it's a huge mess. My shop is a c can jam packed with a bunch of my dad's crap. I figure it'll be harder to lose body parts than little engine parts. Plus an engine swap would probably cost me more than a body swap. I'm looking for the most basic way to turn my rig into a diesel.

Oh, I think you need to do a bit more research. Swapping a motor is certainly not as involved nor as risky
as you might think. I'm kind of shaking my head a bit, so just look for the perfect donor. Once you've done
that then start asking questions.. Send me a PM. Is your truck auto or 5 speed?

It's an auto. So an hj swap would probably be better if the tranny is the same. Not sure how to pm yet. New to the forum.

Lots of the HJ60's in Canada had 5 speeds as well as auto. The BJ60's were all standards, a far as I know.
Contact Radd Cruisers in Duncan BC, send an email and ask about whether input shaft on transmissions for
the standards and autos are the same for HJ60's with a 2H engine. Let them know what engine you have
in your truck. If keeping the auto, and the input shafts are compatible then swapping from gasser to diesel
is really a pretty straightforward thing.
Do you know how to weld?

I'm a damn good welder lol. As far as the 2h goes I am familiar with it. We had one not six months ago. Body and frame were rotten and I couldn't afford to buy the engine from my dad. I will check that site out. Thanks for the help. I'm very eager to learn and I'm glad people like you are willing to help out.

I did this to an FJ55 on a gravel driveway using 4 saw horses and a pair of high lift jacks and some balls of steel...Might I suggest finding your local pallet rack guy and hitting him up for 2 pair of 12' x 36" rack frames and 6-8 96" beams, used (150 bucks; okay, maybe 200 bucks...). you can then erect two sets of 8' wide 12' tall racks over your querry using only one pair of beams per rack. then use some chains and come-a-longs or even a half dozen 3" ratchet straps to lift the body above the drivetrain, using the extra rack beams to place below the body after it comes up...clear as mud?

oh, and I voted yes...

All 60 series bodies and frames will bolt together
