Well if nothing else, I need to check my policy, think my beater 45 only has libilty, un insured and a ballon(cover my ass to 1 mil ). Figured it was worth about the sum if the parts, especially when I didn't drive it 3 years. Better add collision as I am using it. All the others are maxed out....got cheap on the 45. But my agent said I could just take it off a add it by leaving an e mail wit her ....but i tend to forget

I spoke to my agent a few weeks back about the proper coverage. She was actually shocked the truck was worth more than a few grand, and was assuming/planning to only offer me liability. We switched that to actual cash value, which is determined at time of a claim.

For what it's worth, I was quoted me some reasonable sounding premiums to apply for coverage on a "stated value" basis through "American Collectors" . I will email them a couple pics this week (as required) and report back whether or not it pans out. I'm hoping to go with a reasonable replacement value, but do not want to pay the price of over-insuring it either.

So the accident was the other persons fault? if so,
why are you trying to involve your insurance? Is your fight against the other persons insurance now, no need to bring yours in.

for anybody wondering about the covers and so on..... When you call your insurance and you give them the information on your car and they say ok its going to be 10$ a month.... " because they valued your car at 5k in their books which they don't tell you at that moment" then that is what you are paying, 10 bucks a month.. If your rig is stolen, wrecked or whatever the heck... you don't have to take what they offer you... pay 300 bucks, get a land cruiser enthusiast to do the appraisal on your beautiful unique land cruiser and have him value the cruiser for you.. when you buy a 60 or 62 you should take some bad ass photos of it showing how clean it is from every angle and keep them for your records. also do the research for the appraisal and when you hire him send him the links to the cruisers for sale like yours, and their values. the appraisal guy will take care of everything from there forward and will settle with the insurance company for the right value. this guy now works for you and will do you right unlike the insurance companies. It happened to me with an f250 i got stolen. Insurance offered me x amount and after I hired a guy to do an appraisal for me I got x+9,000 after my 1,000 deductible

Because I thought my insurance guy might have some leverage. If you think about it ...me dealing with another person's insurance is crazy. They have no reason to satisfy me. I am not a customer. They will get no premiums from me. They will do the least they can do to satisfy me. It amazes me ...they pay for a valuation which is biased to help them save money. Then present that to me like it's the gospel truth. I tell them it's an opinion and grossly under value. Maybe a professional one but still biased. Then get stall tactics, ignoring me not returning calls. Still no rental. All the legalese in the world isn't going to help me unless I hire a lawyer. I'm sure they've heard it 100 times before. For now I'll wait and see what their appraisal comes in at.

You can make a claim with your insurance company, and should. They insure your vehicle, will pay the claim per your policy, and will settle with the other insurance company. Your company has lawyers and experienced claims reps to deal with the other insurance company. Plus, if the claim is clearly the other drivers fault, they will get their money back through subrogation with the other company.

I have done this several times. If the claim is complicated, if the liability has not been determined, or the loss amount is not agreed, your policy will make you whole per the terms of your policy.

You will not recover you time dealing with this loss, and many insurance companies likes to drag claims out. You can hire a friend to move your vehicle to inspections, and that would be covered. As would a rental car, which can be one you rent from a family member or friend, but typicaly can't be another car you own, unless the damaged vehicle is special, ie, a work truck or used to tow your boat, etc.

Keep fighting, it's the only way to get a fair settlement.

Because reputable insurance companies do so. It is customary for insurance companies to help their clients when they are in an accident, regardless of fault and level of coverage.

No matter what happens from here out, the OP needs to fire his insurance company, and make sure that everyone up the chain, up to and including the President, CEO, CFO and Board of Directors receive lawyer letters saying why.

I'm not in the insurance business, but if an agent that worked for me blew off a liability only customer, I'd fire their ass so fast their head would spin.

Agreed. This is why I have had the same insurance company for 23 years. Even after I moved. My agent got licensed in Indiana and subsequently Texas to keep me as a customer. That is customer service.

He has always paid out and worried about the back end later. Even on vehicles I had liability only on. I had a 60 series that I got t boned in. Had liability only. His agency cut me a check to get it repaired. I repeat, his agency. Not American Family but him personally. Then when it finally got settled I had the insurance issue a joint check to me and his agency. Then again, I live in small town Iowa where people give a s*** about each other. And where you can get your vehicle license in 10 minutes. Along with getting a cookie recipe. Amirite @120mm.

Those are all great point. If they don't want to work with you though fight yourself. we all know how to fight different ways but all agree on one thing.... Do Not settle for crap money if your 60 is way more than that research, fight and get more. learn some legal terms and they can only stall for so long before the claim has to be settle even if is the other persons insurance, that is when bad faith claim comes in. Yes, they might not care because you don't pay them... but oh they do care because if they don't pay out that is so illegal and they will get fine out of the wazoo

As of now I have a rental truck although not a work truck( i use my cruiser for gutter cleaning)but at least the clock is ticking for the insurance company. I called the claims office and spoke with the claims supervisor. He agreed that classic vehicles are hard to accurately appraise and said throw out the CCC1 valuation. He contacted a local appraisal company in my state and they have looked over my vehicle and they are submitting their valuation report to the insurance company. They are paid by the insurance company and their agent said that 100% of their work was for various insurance companies. I see this as them being "partners" with the insurance company and I think it is safe to assume that they come in low as to keep their clients happy. He also admitted that insurance companies can do what they want with his report and they may adjust the figures. I am waiting for the insurance company to hit me up with another settlement offer based on their new report.

Patience is a virtue.

Just got a call from the ins. co. They say the appraisal came in at $11,250.00 plus adding for tax, title etc for a total of $11,723.25 That sound a whole lot better than $4500.00

I told them to send me the settlement offer in writing. Now wondering if they want to repair?? At least we're on the same page!!

I'm happy for you man,so are you getting it fixed? If not maybe buy it back and part it out. Just my 2 pennies.

Thanks All!! I am pretty happy about the valuation too. Waiting for an offer from the insurance company. They're adjuster appraised the damage at $7260 so if they want to hand me a check for that and leave my title alone then I'll play along. If they want to repair it that's fine too I just won't let them off the hook until the repairs are done. I already have discussed buying a set of doors for $200 locally from a mud member. I'll pull out the b post and repair the quarter panel, repaint, new weatherstrip and source some door panels. If they insist on totaling the cruiser I'll take the full appraised amount, buy it back, (if the price is right) and get a salvage certificate. Then repair go to dmv get a repaired or rebuilt title and pocket the rest of the $$. It still drives good. Prob not parting this one out.
