Sweet!!

When is this rebuild process going to start ? Glad to hear that they won't total the vehicle. Keep us posted on the progress.:bounce::bounce2:

I have a set of red doors lined up to purchase from a mud member. I'll try and pull out the b post. If that doesn't work looks like I can source one from here. I already have some sheet metal, fiberglass and filler left over from another project for the quarter panel. When I get started on it I'll post up some pics in a new thread.

RE: - pulling out the B post. I chained a T-boned Taurus to a tree, attached chains to the door hinges, and gently pulled the B pillar out with my FJ62. It took very little force, and I easily moved the post back out 1.5" to where it started. I replaced the door hinges and both doors, and with a few more porta-power tweaks, I had this totalled Taurus back nicely into shape. B-pillars move a lot more easily than you would think, so be very gentle until you see how much (little) force it takes. I think you'll come out of this with a very sharp truck!

Would it be worth paying a professional auto body shop to pull the B pillar? They can use a measuring system to make sure it's perfectly aligned. I have taken some auto body classes in the past and it is amazing how accurate the Car-O-Liner system is.

If you can find a shop willing to work with on this, it might make sense. They will need the 2 new doors to be sure that when they are all done, it's aligned well. If you're in a highly litigious area, you may not find a shop willing to work on this. If you have some qualified hot rodders and good ol' boys around, you may find someone who will do this.

insurance premium estimate came back at $364 annual using my $15,000 stated value - includes $145 for liability and $219 for comprehensive + collision with a $500 deductible. I may bump it up to $20K for an extra $75. research from my independent insurance agent.*there are some caveats to using an collectors/ classic car policy - i think the household must have a daily driver in addition to the classic and this quote also includes a mileage assumption of 2,500 miles annually (other options available). just passing along...

That's not bad. Did you have to get an appraisal done?

Could you raise the deductible to lower your premium? To $1000.

i am told there is no advance appraisal if the underwriter can verify that you are posting a reasonable number, and it is often supported with photos. value is agreed upon prior to policy issuance. so I guess we will find out the answer there shortly and thus far I have only supplied my profile picture. LS1FJ40 the feedback I have is that changes to deductible do not have as significant an impact as one might expect. there are also some very specific constraints for example, no towing. I have no expertise on insurance and am not providing advice here, but imagine that most insurance policies exclude off-roading. maybe not? for me, the traditional uses for a "classic" such as the occasional joy ride and/or "exercising" the motor frequently, while otherwise storing it in a garage is fine. a quick google search yields half a dozen or more insurers for classic cars... I have no experience with any of them, just passing along the info from one. keep in mind, we're insuring it either way... one way we set the value upfront, the other way it's up for debate after the claim.

Got 2 doors on. Now search for quarter panel and door well.
