Hi Friends, Anyone have an intermittent wiper relay box they would like to sell me? Mine was squawking and after removal, cleaning and re-greasing it stopped working on the intermittent function altogether. Anyone with a spare they can sell?

Mine was doing this last week. Could not find one anywhere...Pulled part, blew it up with compressed air then electrical parts cleaner sprayed inside. Now nearly silent and working well. You might want to degrease, brake parts cleaner?

So tried brake cleaner treatments, no dice. Also lightly sanded down the contacts with some 320 grit between them when engaged, they are clean and bright now. Motor is spinning when switch is powered on, I can hear that and the cam does actuate the contacts I verified that spinning by hand. Not sure what else to do. Haven’t found one used yet, was hoping for a mud spare here!

Is the failure in the relay or in the signals from the steering column stalk switch?
Thanks to woytovich for the link to the swap, be worth doing for the variation in speeds on intermittent.
But I just got tired of trying to fix and find relays. Mine is the gear style that just doesn't work any more.

The failure appears to be in the relay, steering column switch powers the relay and works great at the other speeds. This is the gear style relay as well.

So the truck uses the same gear relay, I wonder why they last longer?

I realize this is an old post, but I want to throw some advice in here just in case anyone else has a relay that fails after greasing and comes searching here for answers, like I did. Ian mentioned aboved that the problem is probably the contacts if this happens, and the issue in mine when I opened it back up was the internal contacts. To be specific the problem was with the contacts that cam lobe pushes together to accuate the wipers. There was carbon build up from silicon lube getting burnt up when the contacts sparked against eachother. I used some sand paper to clean it off and blew it with compressed air and now it works fine again. Hope this helps someone out in the future.

I been dealing with this and couldnt find a replacement part. I found a used one on cruiser parts, but when i checked mine to make sure its the same part number i realized only the small connector is plugged in. The big 4 prong side is disconnected and i cant find the corresponding plug that would go to it. Is that how its suppose to be? Just the small connector plugged in?

Well i found it, the hard mounted plug closest to the firewall. Cleaned all my contacts inside and out, lubed the gears, and plugged it back in. Now my wipers have intermittent and they return home on their own! Only 3 years of dealing with that, not so bad i guess.

Is there a market for a replacement intermittent wiper relay?

I think there would be a market for sure. Toyota doesn't sell them anymore, and used ones are usually very pricey.

I’d be curious if a more modern wiper relay could be adapted to work or if the old school mechanical timed relay is the only way that will work with the wiring/motor in the LC

Just an update for anyone who might be trying to get wiper delay working on a FJ60. The relay up under the dash on my 1985 FJ60, i took it apart and the contacts on the relay on a little circuit board inside had welded together. I was able to find a little relay on Ebay that i soldered into the circuit board and it worked perfectly. I bought 10 of these relays for like $10. See pictures.
