Hi, we have been searching the Mud web site for information on what Toyota FJ60 dizzy years will fit a FJ40 2F engine.
I am not familiar with the FJ60 and its dizzy, but understand that certain years are able to be installed as long as the side cover has a dimple for room.
Can someone tell us what years FJ60 dizzies we can use on a no smog 1980 FJ40 2F engine.
Thank you

81-87: distributor body redesigned to use large cap. I think. Do a search on: big cap dizzy, big cap distributor, Jim C.
That should find you most all you need to know.

Yes we did a search but it is kind of vague on what years one can use the big cap dizzys on a 2F.
Thanks

is there a problem with your 1980 distributor?
IIRC.....there are only 2 differences in a 1980 and 81+ the cap will be bigger on the 81+ and the shaft has a bearing instead of a bushing.

both are fully electronic and fairly bulletproof and reliable.

Do you need a dented side cover with a big cap dizzy? how about a trollhole dizzy?

Yes you need a dented side cover with a big cap dizzy. The same donor engine can provide both parts. Don't know about the TH.

If I read this right any FJ60 electronic big cap dizzy from 1981-1987 will work on a 2F engine.
We did see the distributor that trollhale is selling and looks promising but really have not seen much in the way of feedback from a lot of the buyers.
We were advised that the Toyota distributor from a FJ60 to use in a FJ40 2F engine would be the best as it is a very well built and reliable distributor.
One concern we have is that the Toyota distributors are getting very old and parts are not as easy to find for them like the coil and igniters. With that said maybe we should look a little harder at Mr. trollholes distributors.
Thank guys

I have a trollhole dizzy, has a built in ignitor and you can use any coil. Been running it for a couple months and have not had a single problem. The only negative i have is my stock 78 dizzy was more water tight then this unit. I read somewhere that he is 2 weeks out on his shipment so if time is an issue. . .

what year is your 40?

I just read some on his dizzy's and we are now definitely thinking on giving one a try. We better get on the list as it looks as he sells out fairly fast. I like that he says he tests all the dizzy's for accuracy in working before selling. That means a lot to us and others. We have a 1980 40 that has a non US dizzy that is giving us some problems so from points to electronic sounds like the way to go.
Thanks
