So I got board today and started a project. I have seen a maybe 2 of these done on here so I decided to move the air inlet from the drivers side to the passenger side on my air cleaner.

I am going to do this in stages, and I don't know how I am going to attach one side to the other yet (feel free to offer suggestions) but instead of cutting one side with a Dremmal and then the other I decided to drill out the spot welds.

Here is what I got so far.

I decided to put it back on my cruiser for now. Hopefully I can get to more of the project this week. It should be ok to drive, at the very least it cant be any worse than those open element Weber air filters.

I know @wngrog has done this with his 60. Seems like drilling out the spot welds has been the popular option from my readings.

Recent pics here. More in the thread if you dig.

You could source a 3f carb hat and run the fj62 air cleaner.

Today I continued working on the air cleaner and cut out the area where the air inlet will go.

After I outlined where the inlet sits I allowed for some metal to attach stuff too and cut with a Dremmal.

I had to persuade the metal a bit and cut out the support for the hose that the air pump connects to but I think it is pretty close to being the right fit. I put it back on the cruiser for now until I can grab a piece of scrap metal to patch the hole on the other side. Still haven't decided on what to use to bond this together.

so i guess since no one local had a welder i could use and were probably paranoid since the covet 19 is running rampant through my town, a friend of mine introduced me to a fabricator who took care of the welding. it should be waterproof, I will be making the appropriate adjustments like putting a rubber seal around the top and by the carb once i get a snorkel. So here it is!

That's funny my friend said the same thing!

I am going to clean it up and make it all pretty. I still have to test it for air tightness and come up with rubber seal around the top. I think the stock seal around the carb should be good.
