I bought this unit with a the original drive train in it and barely managed to get it home. John Deere is now in the process of getting a 350TBI and a 700R4 from a 1991 Chev Pickup.

Update as of 10/22/09: I have nearly completed the conversion for this pig as of last night. Just one or two wiring gremlins and she is ready to go.

John Deere just got a Chevy 350 and a 700R4. Not too fancy but it should be one **** of a hunting/fishing rig. I did, however, install a Lokar auto shifter in which is ****.

The story of the monotone truck gets deeper. When the orginal owners went to their local Toyota dealer in Springfield VA the salesperson did not have any FJ55's on the lot, but he could check out other local dealers. He found two trucks available, one blue and one sand color, both monotone. Since I have found a couple other monotone 1977 FJ55's on Ebay. Blue FJ55 66051 built Sept 1976 and a Green FJ55 69485 built Dec 1976. for some reason 1977 appears to be the year of the monotone trucks, not sure why though.

Anybody else have a monotone 1977 FJ55?

the paperwork came as a surprise. the last time I spoke with them I had asked for some early photos if the came across them. several months later I got the paperwork in the mail, still would love to have a photo from 1977 when they bought it.

I also have a 1977 sky blue FJ55 with wood and white trim strips. Paint code 854 EA12. It was built Nov. 76 - #68188.

Hmmm, didn't this piggy live in Bend downtown?! I always noticed how unique the paint scheme is. Nice score! Cheers, Carlos.

maybe they ran out of white paint in late 1976... I am sure there is a better answer but we will probably never know.

Carlos, Yes, it was in Bend for a while. I bought it from a guy who grew up in Bend, but has since moved to Portland. Apparently its been in his family since 79 when his father bought it used. Not sure where they got it? It was the family wagon. His dad also used it for hunting expeditions out in eastern Oregon. The thing is full of dust. When I took the Tail lights off, there were several millimeters of dust coating the walls inside the body.

Pictures of my new pig and new pup. 1969 with a 1978 2F, disc brakes, toybox, twin sticks, 4 speed, lincon lockers front and rear, not much rust. Chris Hatfield built it up and had it for a few years, sold it to Paul for a few years, and I just picked it up. Lives in the high country of Colorado. Pig is currently in hibernation because it doesn't like starting when the temps are always below freezing
