Hi guys, new to the forum, I've been reading it for a while, have found that people over here have lots of knowledge about Toyota FJ series, which is a great source of information and motivation.

English is not my native lenguage, so I apologize to you all if make grammar mistakes.

The reason for this post if to hear from you guys if these cars are worth the shot, since I came by and have an opportunity to buy one of them.

I bought the 1981 model for around $4200 dollars, with papers and other things that comes around the car can easily cost around 5500 USD, but over here these cars have lots of use, in countryside, working in petroleum companies and even for restorers. I know the car is pretty rusted and has a lot of k's on his engine, but with a little TLC it can be put back to the road and I don't need it for parades, the main purpose of my purchase was to work with it.

The second one is a 1976 model, it's been treated badly I suppose, since one rear axle is broken, the gearbox is kicking off the gears, the engine has to be redone (I don't mind since I'd like to put a diesel on it if I buy it) and the other thing are papers with customs but can be done. The asking price is around $1600 dollars but adding papers and shipping the price can reach the $3000 dollars. I know it's a little steep for a car that has to be done mechanically and bodywork but since they have winch and metalic bed (lots over here have wood bed) it's nice to see one in original condition.

What you guys think? Is it worth it? In my family we've had various Toyotas, my dad still has a 1980 FJ43 and my uncle has a 1978 FJ40 and I can think of other several fjs. Since 40's and 43s are pretty common over here, 45's aren't and that's the reason I want to buy this second one to restore it.

Hell Ya They're Worth It!

Both trucks are worth the price plus the shipping in my mind.

The PTO winches go in the $2,000 to $2,500 range depending on completeness (shatfs, joints, etc.). So the seondone is almost paid for right there, especially if you are the kind of guy who does not prefer the PTO winch.

The second thing they have going for them is the actual bed. That is usually the part that is missing or rusted away on these trucks. Very hard to find a bed or tailgate for that matter. I would easily get $1000 for each bed.

Both trucks look to very good rust-wise. The first truck does look bad because of the hood, but that looks like it is mostly surface rust. If you look at the bottom below the doors, there appears to be no rust. It looks like that is the original paint and to me that is always a plus because there is less chance that there have been shoddy repairs that have been painted over.

They look like greatdeals to me. One caveat though is that I do not know where you will be importing them to. I know the prices for Canada/US, but there might not be so many cruiserheads in your country.

Good luck, if it was me, I'd buy both! :p

Price has a lot to do with location. THe 45 pickup was only imported from 63 to 67 in the US market. Plus by todays standards these would be a specialty vehicle imported in very low numbers. Compared to most the world the 45 here were very used lightly with rust being the biggest concern. Because of the few numbers and popularity of 45 a clean or even a good canidate for restore a worth a pretty penny here. So where is this 45 located? How many were imported to your region of the world? I will say seeing the amount of rust and how bad the front frame horn is bent I would check the frame carefully.

Lol thanks guys for the comments!

I'll try to buy the second one, wish me luck lol

In that case is anyone interested in the PTO winch? I could check it out and sell it to someone who want it. These cars were from Goverments Agencies and they are selling them, but they need to go through customs because at that time they were given by some International Aid Organizations, now they have been collecting rust because the first one is parked two years ago and the second has been there 8 years ago.

If anyone is interested in the PTO winch let me know, if I buy it I could check it out and send it to the USA.

Well, the first one is mine already, but they haven't gave me papers of it. I'm waiting for a solution right now. The second one will sold as scrap I believe, because the entity doesn't want to mess around with documents and angry buyers like me lol. It's a shame because it's in pretty nice condition, or at leats would be a nice proyect. Today bough a fj45 scrapped, but all the bodyframe and frame is in good condition, I need it to save one that it's pretty much gone by rust problems.

I'll post pictures when the seller give it to me, and maybe when it's rebuild.

Wow. That's just too bad. I hope by "scrap" they mean "parts" so at least the good parts on the rig don't end up getting melted.

Ask them if you can have the tailgate and the box off the second one.

Also, get all the winch parts and the PTO parts if you can.

Yes, that's what I mean. They will be sold as parts, no title or any documents that allows to keep the car running. Over here (I live in Colombia) the frame and engine can't be reused in other car, so the parts that can be utilized again are doors, cab, and so on.

The box and tailgate are difficult to sell, even here where Toyota's have been so popular (I believe we can blame the Land Cruisers for giving access to remote areas and develop the country) aren't that common. The transmissions, gearbox, and all the other components are easily recycled in other vehicles. PTO winches are rare to, some guys ask USD $2500 for them, which is a steep price for some. I want to get the first one, I hope they can give me papers (clean title), if they can't the car will be sold as parts too.

It's a shame I don't have the money for this trophie, looks to be mint. Auction price is $1900 USD, I guess it will end up in $3500 USD plus documents.

Well, what can I do :meh:

Hi guys, they finally let me pick up the car, it's rusty but after 3 years of being parked it started like it's been yesterday. Rear wheel is leaking but nothing serious. The body is in shape but rusted, have to get it painted.

I'll attempt to buy a 1980 FJ45 tomorrow, wish me luck guys lol

This one is for parts only but it serves my purpose.

The last one sold for US 2500. That was more that I was willing to pay for a car without title. An uncle got some days ago a 76' with clean title for US 3500.

Where are you...and these cruisers???
