Started working on the engine mounts, I bought the engine side mounts unfinished and ended up cutting and rebuilding them, I probally salvaged 40% of the original mounts..not sure if it wouldn't have been easier to build from scratch. I am going with Generation I Dodge isolators. For the frame side I first fabricated a 5"x2" 3/8' reinforced mounting location, I then modified Gen I engine side mounts and reversed them attaching them to the frame.

A few photos showing transmission placement, No mods to sheetmetal will be required, also the pan is flush with the frame rails.

I can't get over how clean the rig is. Very cool.

This is going to be a killer rig when done. Hopefully the mods they made to the trans hold up because i've personally had horrible luck with 700r4's behind sbc's.

This tranny started with a stage 3 build (for a gasser its rated at 650 hp and 450ftlbs) It has a diesel gov & the valving is modified for the cummins 4bt power curve (full torque @ about 1850-2000 rpm) I alos have a low stall torque converter for drivability.

For regular use it should be fine. Hard offroading with wheel slip & spin will be the true test:eek:

My original plan was to install the new drivetrain suspension & steering then drive it until next winter. Then do a body off rebuild..well???? winter is coming in the southern hemisphere:grinpimp:
Actually the guy who bought my old engine and trans put me in touch with his painter and he has a slot open. So I stopped the enhine mounts to disassemble the body and get it off to the painter.

Started on transmisson crossmember. I started with the AA crossmember ( great rock catcher if you collect rocks) and a couple pieces from roughstuff.

Well while the body is off to the painter and the frame is at powdercoating I started working on the rearend disc brake conversion.
The usual stuff remove the spyder shaft retaing bolt, drop out the spyders, remove the c-clips & pull the axles straight forward...that is until you find out the bolt has sheared sometime in the last 40 years.
The top bolts is what came out, the bottom bolt is what it should have looked like:hhmm:

So I drilled out the pin, not an easy task since you are drilling horizontally, I used 5 step drills the drove the pin out by shearing the remaining pin, the pin being harden steel helped. I still have to easy out the remaing bolt in the carrier and easy out a piece of the pin, what a PITA. The carrier threads are still ok :bounce:after I chse them with a tap
