Greetings,

I had a repairman come and fix our old traktor (1960's) when I told him about a winch, which I thought was proprietary for the traktor but in fact was pointed out by the repairman to be a rare fj40 winch, and suggested that I go a forum where people might be either interested in it and/or could tell me more based on the photos. I cannot install it on my traktor without modifications and would hate to do that now that I know what it supposedly is.

I would like to point out that we have had the traktor since new, bought by my grandfather and he has gotten all addons for it as well, including the winch (I asked my mom, and no, we have never had a toyota land cruiser). The winch has been sitting in the hay for atleast 30 years.

Cheers in advance!

Here you go. Rare maybe. You need other stuff like the PTO on the transfer case and the connecting drive shaft. Shipping pig iron isn't cheap. Perhaps there is local LandCruiser club

By the bars that bolt to the back angle iron and support the fairhead rollers does not look like an FJ40 but for a 70 series. Same with the front mount. The winch most likely has a worm drive gear for a single direction PTO. FJ40 had two direction PTOs. What this means if mated to FJ40 PTO all forward gears would cable out and only reverse would cable in. Opposite of what you want. Worm is reverse in two direction PTO. Basically on a two direction PTO cable uses an idler gear. Reverse is direct. All 70 series were single direction. 60 switched when the 70 series,11/84. Few 40 series built with a PTO after date were still two direction.
