I just saw a listing in the classifieds that was 'close' to what I need, but not exactly what I need. So I thought, what better than to tell exactly what I need and see if someone had it?

My new rig:

1971 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser with a PTO Winch.

Now, I just purchased a good condition 2F engine, a rebuilt 4 speed transmission AND transfer case (mine was originally a 3 speed), AND a Todd Toyota Overdrive Unit.

With that said, mine was originally a 3 on the tree (column shift 3 speed). I will probably leave that shifter on the column, but my goal is to convert it to a 4 on the floor (I'd be more used to that, and could teach everyone in the house including my wife to drive it rather than a column shift) WITH the mechanical Overdrive unit, which I understand to go to the left of the 4 speed stick shift with another shift lever having 3 positions (forward, neutral, and back) for High and Low Overdrive.

With all that said, does anyone have, or make, a pan to go on my floorboard that would allow the transmission shifter to come through it as well as the Overdrive unit to the left of it? Ideally, a small floor pan ready to go for a 4 speed manual shift transmission, PLUS - an opening for the 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive selector (and 4WD Low + 4WD High), PLUS - an opening for the Todd Toyota Overdrive unit to the left of the 4 speed stick shifter.

If anyone has such a thing, let me know, and let me know price. Feel free to PM me.

Than you!

I assume from your description it doesn’t look like this, but thought I’d throw this out there…

What's a Todd Toyota overdrive unit?

X2 what is a Todd Toyota Overdrive unit ?

Do you mean a Fairy overdrive?

Anything will need to have an aftermarket overdrive cut out

How about a picture of what YOU have and what’s going IN

Glad I'm not the only who was wondering the same thing.

btw @FloridaLife if you contact Stevie at Terra tough USA in AZ they might be able to create a tranny tunnel for you in fiberglass … a New Zealander who moved here not too long ago and brought the fiberglass buisness 4wdFiberglass here to the states

Omg @Living in the Past we are getting old … we discussed one awhile ago …. I was racking my brain as I know I heard it but could recall it … getting older sucks

It was 13 years ago :)

Just wait until you get to my age Johnny. I remember a little about the Stroudski which was like early one piece redesigned to a split case.

Hopefully Marshall @Trollhole can post the pictures directly to the site. Sadly many pictures hosted elsewhere are now gone.

@FloridaLife I would contact Mark @65swb45 and see if might still any old Todd ODs around. I got lucky I was able with some help acquired a vendors remaining Fairey OD parts when Fairey stopped supporting their ODs.

I got a complete drivetrain including rebuilt transmission, rebuilt transfer case and Todd Toyota OD. We should all be arriving in a week. I was trying to find some video on YouTube of one of these. Todd overdrive units just so I could see and hear what it's like but no luck so far finding one.

Any information you can share about the Todd OD unit would be greatly appreciated. I do know that it bolts onto the side of the transmission just like the Fairey OD units and does not change the length of your drive shafts so that's good.

Probably the most information you will find on the internet will be right here. The one piece transfer case ended 7/80 in the US. That's a long time before Al Gore invented the internet. Not sure of any number sold but believe the Fairey OD was the most popular one. Seconded by Hone. Would be surprised if the Todd would even be 1% of the Fairey ODs sold. I would explore all options of finding a spare or any parts. Mark is a business and seen far more transfer cases than I have going thru wrecking yards years ago. Only OD I've seen for the one piece transfer case is the Fairey. I'm not sure of the Todd will allow a PTO to be used. Fairey's split case OD replaced the back half of the transmission. It did not allow a PTO to be used. Opening for the PTO was completely deleted.

Dont call me about a Todd overdrive; I’ve never heard of it. In my five decades of wrenching on cruisers I’ve dealt with the Fairey, Hone, Stroudsky and Advancced overdrives. And other than the Faireys it was limited to disassembling and removal

I wanted to find a Fairey OD unit, but just haven't found one yet. The "Todd Toyota Overdrive" came with the drivetrain.

I'd also like to find a good condition OEM Toyota PTO Winch at a reasonable price.

Only mentioned you Mark was of this post of yours in the Todd overdrive thread that JohnnyC linked above.

One of the crazier OD T-cases to cross my path over the years. I have seen the remnants of two of those.

Interesting thing is that the housings had markings on them that said 'Advance', tho I'm virtually certain it was NOT AA.

I'm not sure if I still have the box of parts from the one I pulled off a customer's trans for a stock t-case install, or if I tossed them.

IIRC, the principle was very similar to the Stroudski.

:meh:

Looking at these pictures @JohnnyC posted a link above a PTO will not mount to a transfer case with a Todd OD mounted to it.
