Search turned up huge amounts of info on 60, 62, 80 and 100 series....but nothing on 40s.

I'm looking for lockable storage for the rear of my 40 that is ~7 inches tall by ~41 inches wide that extends from just inside the rear doors to near the body to frame bolts in the rear floor (6/77 FJ40). That would be floor to fender height. Planning on mounting my Geo Tracker/Zuki Samuri rear seat on top of said storage box. Cruiser only has a full length bikini top, so I'd prefer metal over wood if possible. I'm getting a Tuffy console for Christmas (luv my wife!), but Tuffy has nothing that is FJ40 specific for rear storage.

Lets see what you guys have come up with!

Thanks

I use a GI X-Ray Box in mine. Aluminum so it is about as light as a Tuff tote container, 100% water/dust proof. A little tall to mount a seat to.

The best thing for you might be to try to find a used Confer rear Bench seat, they don't make them anymore so used is the only option. I liked mine but it was a hassle when I camped, took up to much room.

Come on now....

Someone has a good solution for me.... right?? Let's hear (& see) it!

Thanks

Hi All:

I don't know the exact dimensions off of the top of my head, but I bought a hard plastic black plastic box at Loew's Hardware last Sumer that fit alright behind the front seats, with plenty of room between the wheel wells. Cost was $25 and the lid has padlock hapse built-in.

This box is (??) 15 inches tall, ten inches deep, and 40 inches wide (??) moe or less.

HTH.

Regards,

Yep, I've got one without the storage compartment, so I'm gonna weld a custom box underneath the seat. It should turn out pretty sweet. I think MAF has something similar.....yep, look here. Maybe you could weld up a storage box for underneath this one.

rear box

here is a drawing of something I was toying with. the receiver is for storage of my multimount winch. out of sight and weather. not an actual hitching point.

click below to view, it won't load, or I'm retarded.

stay away from the plastic tubs if you keep anything remotely important, or people might think you do. some jackasses knifed two of my new swampers to get the cruiser low enough that they could bust into my old plastic toolbox.

Sounds like you know exactly what you need... Just build it yourself.

Mark...

i had this and the conferr rear seat with storage box

Thanks for the good suggestions.

Another question does come up though:

Do FJ40s have consistent rear dimensions: width between wheel wells, height of wheel wells, height of floor to quartertop/tailgate top, rear door to body-to-frame bolts (back to front)? I guess I'm asking, if someone made a box to market to the LC community, what size would it need to be to satisfy all 40s?

Thanks

I got these boxes from Conn-Fer about 10 years ago. Don't know if they still make them though.

THinking more about storage.
About 8 months or so ago there was someone from the Salt LAke area making a Seat/ storage for the 40 that went over the rear fender well and selling them on Ebay. Can't find the information in my computer. Perhaps someone else contacted them for information.

here is my homemade under seat (3rd row seat from 93 suburban) drawer. I used 100# drawer slides from home depot and welded up a drawer out of steel mesh and 4'"flat stock. The slides are bolted to the sides of the wheel wells and the lacth is a window security lock. It works great, stores alot and only cost about 30.00 in material. the removal suburban seat acts as a lid and pivots up if I don't want to slide the drawer out.

Can you post a couple of more pictures. That looks very cool. How much do you think it weighs?
