Thought I’d post my solution for a stripped windshield hinge screw. As far as I know, there’s no way to get at the back side of the screws in the windshield frame. I was nervous about trying to drill this one out, so I came up with this option to try first, figuring that if it didn’t work, I’d just grind it off and have to try drilling.

Result was a total success. Despite my amateur welding skills.

The "weld a nut a on" is well known technique, that's almost always met with success.
Happy it worked out for you as well.

Another thing to consider when trying to remove these …and similar screws on our Toyota’s is to use a JIS screwdriver AND NOT A REGULAR SCREWDRIVER.

Get the proper size and be sure it’s JIS, use a good penetrant (Kroil) lightly tap the head of the screwdriver with a semi heavy hammer and twist while you tap, tap, tap.

Very good chance you will be successful W/O going to the weld a nut trick. When looking for a real JIS screwdriver, look for one with actual metal on the top where you will tap, tap.

And after that, we got a few out with an impact screw driver. Then "weld a nut".
