the point of buying and selling is that I need a 4WD. I like to have the top off, so that limits me (fpr the most part) to a CJ (I don't want a newer version) or an FJ. I am doing a lot of driving around, and will be hitting some unknown trails/roads here, so I want something fairly capable.... I wouldn't think that re-enforcing the frame would be too difficult. I will have to look into it more a bit further down the road. Is there a better way to do a power steering addition? It didn't seem to bump steer too badly.

Considering all but the head, i would've considered 5-6k but all that cutting and rare modding, the mix and matching and cutting the fire wall (bugs me cause im a pilot). the "incemetricality" of the whole thing is iffy.

$3-4k

just being honest.

I would seriously consider the advice folks are giving you on this forum. It sounds like your heart is in it, but the amount of experience with cruisers the guys on this forum has is unbelievable. If everyone is telling you to steer clear of this one you would do well to heed their advice.

I get that you want something cool to drive and the 40 is definatly that, but nothing looks cool when you are broke down on the side of the road or stranded. That 40 is so cut up and modified it would be a pain in the a** to fix the cut up mods and find parts to work with the mods if one broke. PO seems to really want to be rid of this 40. He is willing to "fix" alot of its problems. I question if he is the one that caused alot of these problems and didn't fix them right first time. Don't let your emotions overide your common sense. Walk away from this one. I would rather drive a Heep than this 40.

Boy if someone says they would rather drive a heep than a 40 its bad .But seriously there is no way this thing is still a 40.It really sounds like your heart is in it,and thanks for coming to Mud for help, however I would have to agree to stay clear ,you will find one you like.Good luck

no skid plate

so we have 14 no's and zero yes's

one could prolly make ~$1000 US parting it out

it amazes me the junk some people will consider buying, especially for something that will have to be depended upon

there truly are some classic quotes in this thread.

What's the point of this thread? It seems your going to buy it anyways, irregardless of what has been said.

It looks cool, but your putting your life into the hands of the PO's bootyfab skills.

16 no's

woo hoo. up to 2 pages now of run like heel advice

OK, my 2 cents. NO! Don't do it. Someone told me once if you see a vehicle with wires and crap hanging all over the place in the cab then stay away. The theory is if someone is willing to live with that mess inside the cab where they sit then the rest of the vehicle is probably worse. This has been true in my experiences.
