I purchased this 1979 FJ40 with AC and PS. The power steering seems to be a retrofit. I cut the old manual steering box backet off the frame. Does anyone know what steering box this is? It's leaking and I need to install a new seal in it.

That's an FJ60 Power steering box.

never seen a 60 series box that looks like that and a 60 series has a forward facing pitman arm so must be something else?

That's a rear facing pitman arm.

Definitely not a 60 box.... doesnt look like an IFS mini box either.
Did they have to cut the bib to get it to fit?

Thx for the welcome. I didn't install the powersteering on this FJ, it came with the truck when I purchased it about 6 months ago. I had a different 79 FJ40 in my youth. Sold it due to lack of funds to restore it and family stuff. Searched for a while to find a good one that was not a rust bucket, or 50K. This was a good candidate. Been working from front to back restoring it. Have completed the following:
- Removed front clip body work and sandblasted frame, suspension, and repainted.
- Rebuilt front Warn hubs.
- Started desmog and broke a stud on the exhaust manifold, I pulled the manfolds lastnight to repair. Been bogged-down in this one for a while.
- Got front rotors cut, and new calipers for that.
- Also have disc conversion for the back.
- I have some body work to do towards the end.
Plenty to do.
