FJ40 Hi lift jack front bumper mount options?

Hi All:

If you actually plan on using that jack, carry it inside the vehicle.

Carrying a HiLift or similar jack outside the vehicle, exposed to the elements leads to a dirty, rusty jack with a gunked-up mechanism. This jack will not be easy, nor safe to operate when needed.

Just my US$00.02 on the issue.

The real beauty of the FJ Mount is that it can be mounted just in front of the door opening and it will not interfere with the door and you can still open the flaps (not sure the correct name but the things that let water in when you forget to close em). Biggest selling point for me was the ability to lock it to the truck. Albiet the jacks aren't all that costly when compared to the other recovery gear i certainly don't want to be replacing them. To keep the grim / mud off the jack when outback i simply wrap a plastic bag around it with a bit of electrical tape. Eventually would like a wet suit material or canvas bag. Pic of contents. All bases are covered in that little box of goddies and really does fit inside the glove box.

The FJ Mount appears to be a superior product, I'd definitely use it in the future.

Exactly how does the base sit on the running board , just metal-to-metal contact ??
Any rattles ?

Hi, no, it is not metal to metal, the base has two rubber washers as supporters and pads in order to prevent the metal to metal contact. Due to the pins located on the base, there is not rattleling.

It is a nice set up and comes with everything you need to install the kit (well, except for the tools). Very well exaplained isntructions as well.

It is just a well design and big enough knob that you unscrew even is you are modding and is all wet. Easy to moun and easy to dismount as well.

I'm another vote for "shot gun" mount. I made my bracket from a scrap piece of angle iron, cut a rubber gasket that goes between jack and mount and also bottom of jack and running board. absolutely rattle free. Total cost about $.79 for the rubber.

Mine's on the rear. Not to worry - I've already been informed on this forum that I have it in a really stupid spot for off-road. Problem is I've never been off-road or maybe I would have known that.

The mount fits in the receiver hitch. Got it on eBay.

Seriously? Not been off road? What ever you are doing this weekend - cancel and take that rig out. You have a go any where any time vehicle and needs some time in the dirt. Good to engage 4wd every so often too for its own health. Looks to be a great rig.

Never even driven it across the grass. But Nov 21 marks a full 3 year anniversary on a frame-off. We'll put final touches on it Thanksgiving. Then it's time to drive.

The only problem with mounting the jack on the side are narrow trails where a rock/branch/tree can impact it. I've seen on several occasions where the '40 has come that close.

Hi ya. The jack will effectively sit on the foot panel behind the mud guard. If anything it would act similarly to brush bars when stuck by branches. Take on board that tight fit through rock face would potentially collect it. Funnily enough I,m really glad it doesn't rattle at all.

Will the FJ Mount work if you don't have running boards? PO got rid of mine...

I have my hi-lift strapped to the top of my fender, under the jumpseat. Even inside it gets pretty dirty and could use a good cleaning before I use it again

You can either made a base to mount yourself, ... Or ask me for the boards, I have a set from my '74.

Actually, the Hi-Lift sits pretty flush with the fender and step; so, if you you are going to hit something, it will hit first the fender and then the Hi-Lift. Besides, due that the jack mount is attached to the windshield hinge point, it makes it a pretty good bush guard.
