I would like to mount my handyman jack on the front of my 40 and would like to know some of the available mounts. I have a stock bumper setup and no winch so the plan would be to mount it on the top side of the bumper. Here is about the only product that I could find available http://www.btbprod.com/HIGH-LIFT-JACK-TOWERS-7-INCH-BTB.html

Anyone ever use these and if so what are your opinions?

There was an old style set of hi-lift mounts in the classifieds section last night.
Cheap too

Here's mine. Pics are not that great, but I think you can blow them up. I have several more eye bolts that will fit into the frame holes(they are not stainless), but I have the stainless bolts, nuts, flat washers, and lock washers to mount them. The eye-bolt holes fit with the holes in a High Lift Jack.

Hi All:

If you actually plan on using that jack, carry it inside the vehicle.

Carrying a HiLift or similar jack outside the vehicle, exposed to the elements leads to a dirty, rusty jack with a gunked-up mechanism. This jack will not be easy, nor safe to operate when needed.

Just my US$00.02 on the issue.

Good luck!

Alan

I cut 2 sections from a 5" c-channel about 3" wide. Drilled one 3/4" hole on top end for stud for jack and one 3/8" hole for bolts on bumper (use long enough bolts to accommodate c-channel base) mounted them on front bumper using one of the bumper mount bolts. It's a bit hard to see, but the jack is held in place with wing nuts.

I'll keep it there until I install rear bumper/tire carrier where I'll mount the jack.

Guess from the outset i,m writing from an Aussies perspective where we have to deal with animal strikes more regularly than you'se. Mounting on the bar would tend to tell me you don't need the bar at all if your prepared to mount a jack on it. We started out strapping ours down internally within the cabin but that takes up too much room. Then the jack and gear ended up in a draw of our draw system that was safe and out of harms way but still not very assessable or space efficient. We found the roof rack a great place to store the rack when on big trips but when our Troopy is at home the roof rack is removed so we can get into car parks. It became an endless quest to find the best storage. There aren’t many options from internal storage although quite a few attachments for the spare wheel and roof racks and we’ve seen them bolted to bonnets. By far the best option is on the side of the 40 series. When we were sourcing a bracket for our trucks the best options were the Kaymar Hi Lift Jack holder and the FJ Mount. Both were trailed ie one on my truck and misses - (not Shiella or Kylie) and best by far was the FJ Mount. We were so impressed we ordered 10 for FJ Lovers over here. Yes biased.

The FJ Mount secures your Hi-Lift style jack to the driver or passenger side. The FJ Mount keeps your jack and your back in their intended position - vertical. Storing in a vertical requires less strain on your body when mounting and removing the jack.
Mounting height is a big factor. Mounting a steel jack in a high position, like the roof or attached to the spare tire, is not the most practical choice. Mounting the jack in the lowest, most accessible spot is. Securing the Hi-Lift style jack along the side of the vehicle is ideal.

Best of all it fits in your glove box if you decide to remove or pop on someone else's rig. Will let you'se know how it holds up when the next kanga decides to undo my panel beating.

Tazza, That install looks really good, but does it interfer with the psgr door opening? Seems as if it also would require new holes in the body

The real beauty of the FJ Mount is that it can be mounted just in front of the door opening and it will not interfere with the door and you can still open the flaps (not sure the correct name but the things that let water in when you forget to close em). Biggest selling point for me was the ability to lock it to the truck. Albiet the jacks aren't all that costly when compared to the other recovery gear i certainly don't want to be replacing them. To keep the grim / mud off the jack when outback i simply wrap a plastic bag around it with a bit of electrical tape. Eventually would like a wet suit material or canvas bag. Pic of contents. All bases are covered in that little box of goddies and really does fit inside the glove box.

fjMount® Hi-Lift mounting bracket

Hello guys, if you are looking for an easy to install, nice looking and also excellent quality way to mount your Hi-Lift, the fjMount® is the best way to do that. It let you use an other way unused space in your FJ40 which is the side of the vehicle just behind the fender.

You don't need to modify anything in your Land Cruiser, just take the bottom side bolts of the windshield hinge (either driver or passenger side) and put the fjMount® in it. It comes with all the necessary hardware to install it and stainless steel.

There are two options, Standard and Deluxe which comes with a locking knob to prevent unauthorized borrowing.

You can check it out on www.fjMount.com and if you mention you saw it from ih8mud forum, you will get a 10% discount as a paypal refund. It is also free shipping within the U.S.

Thanks. Mauricio from www.taurus4x4.com

I got my FJ Mount from Mauricio. It's great and the jack can be access in a matter of seconds. Mauricio is a great guy to deal with. I bought a Deluxe from him a year ago, during restoration I lost some parts, so I contacted him if I can get a spare parts, and he was very nice to deal with, understood my case and ships the parts I need. I was able to go to the trip as planned. Highly recommend his services.

Exactly how does the base sit on the running board , just metal-to-metal contact ??
Any rattles ?

Nice looking product , btw...

I made a bracket for the top part just before the FJ Mount came out, the base on mine sits on a small piece of belting and is bolted through the floorboard. A friend of mine saw the top bracket the other day and said that was one of the best ideas Toyota had. :hillbilly:
