georg,
any more progress on the OEM replacement Sag bracket?

actually, yes! i hav e a complete fj60 mock-up engine sitting on a cart in the shop. a partial second gen fj60 sag ps bracket is already in place. i was out of the billet pulleys, got more in today so on monday i'll be back on that project.

I had to grind the top right portion down because the exhaust manifold would not allow it to go down on the motor mount bolts. I mounted the adjusting arm on a bottom water house bolt instead of the water pump because the bolts are much easier to get to and adjust. Works like a champ

hmmm, the grinding has me puzzled. are you sure you slid the mounting bracket down far enough on the three engine mount bolts?
i like the adjuster arm idea. might have to do some more mock-up work when i have a minute. a modified adjuster arm would be required but that's not a big deal.

thanks a bunch!

There is still some room on the slots of the bracket but it is as far down as it can go on the motor mount. Would have been easier to put it on a chop saw and cut the bottom down but i didn't think of that:bang::)

DOH!!

Just helped me, now I've got to go out and re-mount my bracket. Mine is on the outside also, I've read every thread I could on this site and not once did I notice it mounted between the block and the motor mount. Oh well. Appreciate the heads up !!

orangefj45,

Now I'm really confused. I went back and searched some threads and this picture was from one of your responses:

Just wondering if the bracket goes on the outside or the inside of the motor mount or is it different for various 40 years ? Or am I just being anal about this ? Thanks !

haha, you caught me. realistically the ps bracket can be mounted on either side of the engine mount bracket. in the pic i posted, we had installed the ps for mock-up.
either way, i've never had to trim anything off the bracket to allow room to clear the exhaust. the ps bracket should be mounted as low as possible, that's why the three engine mount bolt holes are slotted.

well, the fj60 ps bracket just took a step back yesterday. the original prototype bracket we built worked but we used a stamped steel pulley for the proper offset. but that pulley was designed for a narrower belt.
i finally got some more of the billet pulleys back in stock and the offset won't work because the very tip of the pump drive would hit the fan blades.
so yesterday i talked to a local machine shop about making me a zero offset billet pulley. that SHOULD work at which point this kit can go into production. right now it's a waiting game till i get a flat pulley made. hopefully i'll have that in about two to three weeks......

Arrrggghhh, must be very frustrating... and I know that I have seen different fan blades on different trucks so that might mean you would want to have a greater gap between the blades and the pump/pulley to deal with potential variations.

Not to mention the fact that the motor, and therefore the pump/pulley, will move relative to the fan blades...

Thanks georg,

Just going to leave mine on the outside. I didn't have to grind anything down and I still have to complete installation of the power steering. If the weather would cooperate. Another 6 to 8 inches of snow for western PA tonight. Appreciate the response.

just welded up another batch of the minitruck ps box brackets

I have done some tinkering with the fj60 sag pump conversion. One obstacle I've run into is the pulley. I'd like to utilize a one piece, preferably billet aluminum, pulley similar to the one for the earlier 2F conversion. Getting these pulleys made for a reasonable price is an issue. Still trying to get more quotes. The cheapest I've found so far ( locally ) is $85 each. That's my cost at a minimum of 20 pieces.

these brackets are designed strictly for the sag pump, not the toyota unit.
