So this is pretty wild…

The black and yellow wire from the key has burnt up on the previous owner under the dash. Looks like they reconnected a section of it in the engine compartment to a solid red wire that comes out of the wire wall within the bunch of other original wires. Not sure what that red wire is that they used but it’s definitely not correct. Going to run a new wire back to the ignition today.

The BY ignition wire to the coil /distributor is the only wire in the 40 that is not fused which I probably why it burned up. The ignition is not part of the engine fuse circuit.
Ah good thinking. Yep, no fuse on it. I cut it out and replaced it with blue.

The DUI tech suggests that the hot wire must be 12-gauge or better. Without modifying the harness to Black/Red wire as well as the Black/White wire to and from ignition switch (upgrading a circuit needs to be more than a section of wire in the loom), a relay can be a possible solution.

Total mystery why the wire burned out?
