Bill-
did you test your tps with it still on the truck?
And what were your symptoms?
Thanks.

Mainly a high idle. No, I pulled it together with the throttle body when I cleaned the TB. I find it's easier to calibrate when it when it's off. Cleaning the TB and verifying the TPS, along with installing fresh O2 sensors and adjusting the cables, are the best things you can do to improve the drivability of these trucks. It's amazing to me the low opinion some people have of the on-road performance of the 62. There's no way I'd describe mine as a slug. It's nothing to push it up over 80 on the highway.

the tps cant be just but back on, check your fsm for details, also if you see a code again for 11, in which is been desribed above, pull your fuse box and check the connections, ive seen a couple 62s do the same and thats where the trouble was, messing with any idle/ or any screws at all will only cover up a current problem, will not fix it,

Thanks Bill. I already had the TB off once to clean it. I'll pull it again and check the TPS.
I agree with you on the driveability issue. It's no rocket off the line, but cruising at 75 is not an issue (only the gas mileage!).
I'll post up in a couple days.

ISC motors can go bad; they get carboned up and start sticking or they just simply wear out.

couple of things to check before condemning the ISC:

check your valve adjustment!

make sure than once you're warmed up, your oxygen sensors are functioning properly.

check for any vacuum leaks.

check for any codes if you haven't already.

you can also try this; with the ISC plugged in, tap on it a few times and see if the idle changes. if it does, your ISC is bad

you can also try to clean the throttle body, if there's a lot of gummy carbon residue in there, clean that out.

Resurrecting an old thread here but I've been having some issues with the 3FE on our rig. I tried the tapping on the ISC and holy s@#$ the thing nearly cut off before running smoothly again. Tried it a few more times with the same result but now when I tap it continues to run well. So hopefully I freed up the valve or something. I'll probably take it apart once it cools off the clean it and make sure the valve truly moves freely. Thanks Ellington, great advice!

Digging up old threads as I am wondering about my ISC.

Can you pull the ISC w/o disconnecting the coolants lines?

Can you simply clean the plunger w/ carb cleaner?

Should I cycle it while cleaning? If yes, what connections cycle it?

Still seeking answers to these questions regarding the ISC

No. Two coolent lines underneath need to be disconnected.

I've heard they can be cleaned and I've heard they should not be. So I don't know.

I've had some high idle issues with my 62 a couple times, too.
First time was a gummed up throttle body. Cleaned it an all was well.
Second time, was a tight throttle cable. How it got that way, I don't know.
Now I have an intermittent high idle again. I replaced the thermostat, that helped--it was stuck, but it's still high.
I had the ISC out and it was clean as could be and it tested just like you described. I'm not convinced that's the problem, though as the idle kicks up and down just fine for the AC. It just doesn't settle down to a slow idle shortly after starting like it used to.
Sometimes it does idle okay, usually after some extended driving. Tapping on the ISC doesn't change a thing.
$450 is a lot for a normally reliable little piece of an electric motor. I'd rather save up for a vortec V-8 or some other power and efficiency improving swap.
