Has anyone been able to find a Muffler at any Parts Stores?

I just got off the phone with the NAPA warehouse we have here and I don't know if they don't carry the part of if the guy just didn't have a clue what a '79 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is.. Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.

What I did. Cut my old one off. Went up to Advanced Auto. Told them what I needed they gave me the puzzled look. Told them to let me look at what they had. I opened up about 4 or 5. Found one that worked and cost all of 21 dollars.

well if you want the real thing it is still available from toyota......... call rick :D

although it is going to cost a little more than 21 bucks probaly closer to 75

Well the pipe broke free of the muffler this weekend and the muffler is pretty rough. We were hoping to fix it tonight since we were told to drive the Cruiser to a get together tomorrow. LOL

Does anyone have Ricks' number just incase? I'm not feeling the "Pick a box" today... :(

Hmmm Eric has been wanting to move the piping to Over the Frame so we don't hit it on a rock. Have to look into that.

Thanks...

Most local muffler shops can fix you up. They do
a better job than most of us can and they are pretty inexpensive.
I got a muffler and new pipes from the muffler back custom made for $65
installed.

I still need that phone #

looks like we'll be hitting autozone or something to get a universal replacement. I really don't want to be out there all night since it's sooooo cold.

I know, I know....

I still need that phone #

LOL...next time I go to Easley I'll stop by to see if I can get us
a club deal. The guys routed my exhaust up inside the frame rails
just like my fancy MAF system that wore out . It's nice to have the
exhaust routed that way AND up over the skid plate because in the
stock location it is the lowest thing under the truck and seems to
get smashed very easy.
Similarly the rear exit under the bumper on those 60s is just asking to get smashed.
I like the exhaust to exit behind the rear wheel.
I'll post the shop's name and number by next week...promise. :grinpimp:

well didn't get to work on it last night. ended up looking at a house with a great 3 car garage/workshop. would be a great place to do a frame up. by the time we got home I was tired and it was really freakin cold. maybe I'll just wait till it warms up later this week.

erymer / bluestang so we will hear you comin to the meeting huh

there is a mom n pops kinda place in k'ville if you want the pipe work as well. its accross from family farm and feed. i think that is 150 and main street ( just up from that mustard 40). they seemed cool, said they would do a cutnturn on the 80 for like 70 bucks.

yeah you'll hear us tonight because we're bringing the pony. muffler is hanging on there but I haven't had a chance to remove it. I should be able to get it fixed on wednesday. I'll hit you up for the info on the muffler shop tonight. see you guys there and make sure to drag alex out.

Jason, That shop sounds like what we need.

Gundy, you are exactly right... That was one of the things we noticed the first time we went wheeling... "Watch the exhaust" It is the lowest point. Why they didn't put it over the frame is beyond me..

LOL...I think they figured it would protect the skid plate by running it under the darn thing. ;)
That same logic probably thought it would protect a 60's rear bumper. ;)
I've seen 60s with the tail pipe so smashed it choked the engine.
We had to use a screw driver to pry that sucker open enough for the motor
to exhaust.
When those wagons drop off a ledge that tail pipe is toast.

That is why you cut the tailpipe on wagons flat....no pinchy.

Yeah, if we are going to spend money to get a new muffler and all I would like to just take it to a shop and have that problem fixed.. :) One less thing to worry about when wheeling..
