Happy Holiday's 40 Guys!

You may have seen our Cage Kits for FJ55's and FJ60/62's..
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?p=2833248#post2833248

We are working over the next couple of weeks on producing kits for 40's.
My Cruiser is out at the shop, and are working on getting floor plates and starting on a couple different designs..

Our goal is to have 3 or so Cages for 40's..

A Basic one that replaces the Stock Bar and a Front section to protect the Front passengers in the event of a roll.

second Cage that adds rear passenger protection

And a 3rd cage that is for the guys who enjoy rolling their rig multiple times in one outing..

We will have options like Door Bars, After market Seat Brackets, and Different style Overhead Spreaders..

the Plan is to use 1 3/4" DOM .120 Wall for the Main Tubes, and Smaller Diameter/Thickness Tube for gussets and spreaders..

Just like all our kits, the tubes are all pre-notched and Precision Bent!

Let us know what you guys want and we will try and satisfy your needs!

These are some shots i took on my cell phone, just a tease for you guys..

We are still playing with ideas (Hence the Rusty Scrap Steel we used)

The Halo Provides Great headroom, and Clears the hardtop very well, but is a complex piece to notch.

The Rear area for this idea would only work for those who don't carry rear passengers!

but we may try and keep the same look on the Family Style cage.

So Again - Not even Close to a Finalized design, just playing with the bender and seeing what is Strong, looks good, is easy to install, and cheapest to ship..

:bounce::bounce2: Im happy so far!

tire carries half the price of MAF/4Plus :)

More Tube Doors, for the 40's of course... Different styles... ;)

i think only a couple are being made now ?

Tire Carriers are a great idea!, What style are you guys thinking? Part of a Bumper, or attach to the body, Attach to the rear cross member?

I Personally am thinking about mine as a part of my Cage, where i can flip it out for more room, or flip it in for a better COG or w/hardtop on..

I Have a Very sweet idea in my head for tube doors that are also hard half doors w/sheet metal.. We just got a new piece of software (Bend Tech Pro), so designing new products is much easier that the Bend it, See how it looks, then scrap it method!

How about attached to the cross-member! I'd like that one!

Cheers!

I like that design. Please pay close attention to the over head wiper motor clearance on earlier 40's and the thicker doors on later 40's. Those seem to be a problem with most cages. I guess if it is shipped in pieces then one could make adjustments when they get it by moving the over head spreader further away from the windshield frame.

I've been wanting a cage design that will work with the factory long jump seats. The seats need to stay in their factory location though.

So far my ideas on it may not be very good. I'm no specialist on a good cage, but I had thoughts of tying the front hoop, where the rollbar is most commonly into the area where the rear legs fo the front seats bolt to. I thought some sort of split bar, or heavy flatstock gusseted could be used to go around the fuel filler on the passenger side.

Then go back similar to your design with a halo/U shaped bar that follows the contours of the hard top fairly closely, with two legs coming down right along the opening of the rear hatch and tying into the fender right where it attaches to the rear area of the tub.

By attaching to the heavy reinforced crossmember under the seats, and the the fender right next to the tub, it helps to support the cage better on early 40's that did not have factory re-inforcement for a roll cage.

I personally don't like the front hoop in a daily driver, knee banger by the dash.

Just an idea I've had in my head, don't have the tools (bender) and knowlege of proper tubing to build myself. Weakest link is the area at the filler, but I figure my idea is as strong as the sheetmetal you tie into.

Jeremy, Thanks, Good Call on the Motor Clarence!, We have a 76 and a 77 in the shop, but no early cruisers, Could you Do me a favor and give me some dimensions of the wiper motor on the early cruisers!

These will ship as kits, and i believe that this design should clear the windshield by a good amount!

they will Clear the Later Doors, No Problem! Frame Tie-in mounts are going to be a challenge for the B-Pillar due to the tight space under the tub.. Guys with Extended wheelbases have more room, but stock wheelbase will be an issue.. Jeff the Master fab guy in the shop will figure something out!

this design clears the factory buckets in their stock location, Maybe you could shoot me some #'s for the width of the factory Bench and distance from the tub, ect..

Already thought of, the door bars go over the filler..

The Halo Design was good, but this design will be easier to install for you guys! and allows for some play if your cruiser is a bit tweaked..

We will not be using any of the stock sheet metal for cage Structure see my last post, we will tie into the frame at as many points as possible.

That Bar will Be up Near the dash, should have no issue hitting you knee. and remember its a kit, You can install it however you want ;)

Remember that the above drawing is still just an idea.. Thanks for all the Comments and Suggestions! we are working hard to ensure that our cages are as strong as possible, easy to install, and work with every model 40..

Something like the 4Plus that bolts into the rear cross member. Dual swing outs, big enough for a 40" TSL SS on one side, carrier for three Jerry cans or a cooler on the other side. Places to mount a Hi Lift, shovel & axe, CB antenna, and a back-up light.
