No way are you going to fit a 40" Swamper and a Cooler/Jerry cans on the back of a 40.. They are only about 60" wide, 55" at the back where the radius starts, so you man need to ditch the cooler/jerry cans to make it work.

Most guys running above a 37" are ditching their spare tires and carrying plug kits, or putting the tire in the truck on the floor of the tub.. Thats just too much weight hanging out the back of your truck..

fyi a 40 can be mounted with a cooler/jerry can set up....see pic

I'm interested in the paki-cage too!

my thoughts via this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/metal-tech/419129-metaltech-family-cage-shaped-like-factory-soft-top-bows.html

Well I've been thinking about it and I'm thinking that the cleanest and strongest way- although not the easiest- would be to have a frame that sits on top of the body as the hard top does- as I posted above. I think spreading the load across this would negate the need to go lower and tie into the frame etc. Especially if the door frame was also incorporated into the design. The other thing that is nice about this idea is that all the tie downs could be incorprated into the horizontal framework that that runs along the top of the body. That way when the soft top/cage was removed the body would be dead clean. Also sitting on top of the body rail would negate the need for the rear tubes to S-bend as they come up from the rails. Not only would be easier to make and install it would be stronger. Another advantage of having the cage start from the top of the body instaed of resting on the wheel wells would be a huge increase in terms of usable space in the cabin.

Like I said not easy- but in order to work it has to solve all the problems that the OEM bows do- including sealing the doors, and lining the soft top up with the exterior.

I also have some thoughts about how mounts for a rack might be able to be incorporated.

How about some teaser pics?. I will be buying a cage soon, this might just make me pause.

Am I Reading This Correctly?

Are you saying that the oem soft top bow configuration roll bar is going into production? Cost estimates? pics anything? I could not get around the idea of having to remove the bows when I wanted to remove the soft top to cruise topless. I just do not like the look of the bows.

Thanks for the hard work.

It's the next month and then some, show us the cages :)

We have made a prototyope, it went well, But we are going to change up some things here soon. We won't be able to get the changes done I'm assuming for another month or so:mad:.
Sorry for the delay guys, this stuff just takes a little time!

I have one of the Metal Tech rear swing out tire carriers. Right now I am running a 37 in and have a stop for a cooler or two jerrycans as well as my High lIft.

Thread bump. Any updates on this cage project yet?

I was reading through this thread and I know its a cage thread but seen it moved to tire carriers as well. I just got my spare bought and bolted up and it seems to hand out the back like a sore thumb. I made my own because I am cheap and wanted it tight to the back but the tire seems to stick way out on the back its at 18" from back of cruiser. It was closer before I was running a 2.5 BS rim. It seems the tire carries with cooler rack and all the fancy gadgets would hang clear the hell off the back of the rear of cruiser. That would concern me with dropping down off a rock and rippin the thing off rear. Granted I have never seen in person a prebuilt carrier with a cooler rack and all do they not stick out that far? I would guess it is farther than 18" and I am redoing mine just cause I can get 2" closer.

Justin

I think there's huge potential with this project for a lot of sales. I've been holding off buying a cage and soft top bows because of it. Any more updates? Also any ideas on price range? thanks!

New years bump, any further progress

Did Redline ever post any pics of their prototype rollcage that fit a pakitop soft top?
