More thoroughly inspected the harness by the EGR pipe and it looks great. Wrapped with harness tape, then DEI tape and finally sleeved it.

Thermal taped the bottom part of the sleeve to secure it and then wrapped the rest of the harness after inspecting the injector wires.

New loom pass through wrapped up and in place.

Finished wiring up the switch side. Just need to re-label the top one for the compressor and the bottom right one for the fan.

Inputs and outputs separated at the fuse box junction. Just waiting for the fuse repair terminals to arrive.

Ran DRL, fan, fog light, winch cables through the headlight openings and reconnected the hood pin switch. Added rubber trim to help prevent chaffing on both the driver and passenger lower pass-throughs. Mocked up the battery tray to make sure all the added wiring fit around it, it does...

Buzzed a head bolt and cleaned the block holes. Pulled the cams back off and attached the EGR pipe and another new pesky hose. Secured everything out of the way and hopefully have time tomorrow to drop it on.

Cleaned mating surfaces, FIPG at the timing cover seam and dropped the head gasket on.

Head in place and installing ARP Supra studs.

I'm also using the ARP bolts. @logicbyondreaso recommended them to me.

So...

I am the dumbass of the year. I should have waited to get home and grab a standard style allen wrench, but nooooooooo, I'll just use this allen bit with a socket. Moving along, popping the ARP studs in. On the very last stud at the drivers #6 I think to myself, "Shìt, if I droooop...mother fùcker!"

Yup, never even got to finish the sentence and my allen bit decides to play Plinko down the rear oil return. Seriously.

Yesterday I dropped the oil pan and found it resting on the lip:

After using up my luck for the year, I torqued all the studs to 80 ft lbs in 3 passes: 25, 55, 80. Then I did another pass of 80 ft lbs just to make sure and found a couple that took some more. I was able to get the intake cam installed but ran out of time for the exhaust cam until Monday.

Dude, I think we all know the feeling of dropping a small tool or hardware…I felt it all over gain reading your post. I come from jet engine world where dropped items are non-negotiable and must be retrieved regardless of time and production lost…much like your situation here. Glad you got it without much drama!

I still have several sockets rolling around in the bottom of my BMW. too many splash shields to take off... and I'd rather be working on my cruisers.

Used Lucas assembly lube and got the cams all buttoned up.

Marks lined up.

More scubbing of gunky parts.

Tensioner cleaned up and new gasket.

Getting ready to install the valve cover and noticed a lot of trapped hard debris rolling around in the baffles. I do NOT want to take the chance of anything unable to flush out, so a new one is inbound. Must have happened when I had it tanked.
