Hello everyone. Just purchased my first FJ80 recently. It’s a 1996 I bought out of Georgia. It’s has 295000 miles on it but runs extremely well and seems to be really well maintained. It has the typical paint fading on the hood and roof that I’m planning on fixing soon. Has some rust on the front fender and a little on the rocket panel. The underside is in excellent shape. The one thing I’m curious about is why it has a rear rake on it. It has OME lift kit but the front seems to sit a good bit lower than the rear. Is there a remedy for this without messing with the steering geometry too much? Or is it supposed to be like this?

Good looking rig.

As far as the lift you can get 850J springs which are longer and will lift the front end. A little cheaper route you could get 30mm spacers for the fronts to level it out.

Here is a picture of mine with 850J (front) 863 (rear) and 30mm spacers at all four corners.

Here is another shot of it both pictures it is sitting on uneven ground.

First off if it’s a 96 then its a FZJ 80
If you lift the front more you may need to address caster and possibly end up having front drive shift issues.
I personally like the rear a bit higher or stink bug as they call it here on mud.
That way when you load it down with people or cargo it sits level instead of dragging ass.
Also if you plan to add a drawer system and or heavy duty rear bumper with swing outs It will help settle it down.
I say leave it for now tell you decide what You’re gonna do with the truck.

And that’s a nice looking rig !
I like the color combo

Welcome! Nice truck!

My personal advice is, don’t fall for the “OEM parts are the only good parts” opinion. There are good options on rockauto to keep your wallet happy and your rig running tip top.

Don’t buy the cheapest or the most expensive. Middle ground is usually best.

These trucks just spit out none OEM parts
Keep yours long enough and you will see 🤷‍♂️

That’s like, your opinion, man.

I have two other Toyotas with non Oem parts that I have put nearly 60,000k miles each without part failure issues.

Toyota subs out parts and rebrands them. This isn’t a secret.

I turn wrench’s for a living, and made a good one at that.

I bought a new aftermarket most expensive IACV off RockAuto a few years ago for my 01 ES300. Installed the thing snd my engine idle was at like 2,500 hahaha. Sent the pos back and ended up just cleaning my old one and it’s still running great after a couple years. As you can understand I am VERY wary of purchasing aftermarket parts since that happened.

That’s not to say OEM parts are flawless, my brother works in service at Lexus for over 15 years and it’s frightening to hear some of the stories. Sometimes they get sent USED dirty parts packaged and sealed in a new box. Sometimes they send stuff with missing components (happened to me recently ordering new OEM rear brake pads and a coupe shims were missing from the kit). I guess you can’t trust anyone these days.

Your the one that started off with personal opinions that no one asked for.

You have made it clear that you turn wrenches for a living that means nothing to me.

You have posted up some of your work and I well leave it at that.

My apologies to the OP for mucking up your thread.

It took you over 6 hours to come up with that response and that the best you can do 😂

Selective purchasing is a good idea. There some things where OEM is definitely the proven best option.
