I about s*** though when I ordered lug nuts. Who wants to take a stab at what those cost?

Last week before getting my new wheels/tires on I had to rip off the factory wheel locks. Afterward I headed to a local dealership for 4 new lugs to replace them.

I knew I should have planned ahead and called CDan a week earlier. Dealer retail per lug nut.... $14.73!!

After tax I was $63 out the door for four new lugs. Ouch!

Will this do?

About 20' from container.

Driving down city road that was lit.

Well, I was regretting ordering a HID kit after reading the numerous comments about how they are garbage in the stock housings and waste of money without projectors.

Your pics seem to beg otherwise. Would you do it over again Shane?

P.S. I'm thinking about removed the headlights completely and wet sanding them with 2k and then polish to make the glass look like new. Good idea?

I am sure that is the right way to do it.

I am ordering 2 more kits for the Highs and Fogs.

2k would kill them, it would need to be 4-5k and wet and you can't take out any chips. If they are that bad, but some used ones off eBay. mine have 200k and really great shape.

$177 was my cost for a set of 20.....Bend over and take it in the pooper.

Thanks Shane. I'm gunna order mine tommorow morning!

I was also really worried about them being "to much" and pissing people off as I cant stand half of the little Honda's I want to run over blinding me, but not one person has flashed me with these and pretty surprised being it's lifted.

Can't wait for another 4 of them all let at once.

IMHO, not the worst I've seen but it's not really good either. The first pic shows no definitive cut-off and there will be some glare to opposing traffic. The second pic is not so easy to judge the quality of light but it looks like there might be patches on the ground. Most all OEM HID's I've seen have uniform light spread across the front of the car and a sharp cut-off to prevent glare.

This is just one example of a pretty good retrofit. Has a nice cut-off with light that barely shines higher than the window sills.

lets back up and be clear.

  1. these are a kit with bulbs and ballasts.
  2. 6k light spectrum
  3. factory head light housings
  4. of course no drastic cut off as they are in stock housings.
  5. they cost less than PIAA bulbs for the whole kit.
  6. I parked my truck and drove by it in my F-150 SC 4x4 and friends 2wd Mazda pickup with no glare to me as a passing motorist what so ever.
  7. Am I and passing traffic happy I paid $9.95 for them, yes we are.
  8. will I buy the 430 projectors, yes as I already have a call if for the next stuffed Lexus that comes in with them through my national parts guru.
  9. Did I mention I love these lights?

For people looking for a good hid kit check these out Apexcone Raptor HID Kit (35w or 55w): DDM Tuning - HID Kits, DEPO Lights, BMW Bumpers & Lighting

They are $30 with a legitimate lifetime warranty. I have had two kits on my 80 for almost a year with no issues.

Looks like you've made some progress since first buying it!

Ordered the Apexcone HID kit this morning. I did some research and found that these are pretty good for their price. I'll see how it goes in terms of reliability.

pman and I did some testing and saw that the low beams come on when you flash the high beams in the 100 and LX. So that would damage the ballast (from what I have read) if you were to do a simple flash of the high beams. Anybody know how to fix/shut off that feature?

Is it even something to worry about?

I'm clear on what you did. Not trying to be offensive. But a couple others seem to be jumping on these kits after seeing the light pattern/cut-off. What is not obvious from the pics is the intensity of the light. HID's are 3X brighter than the stock bulbs and auto cameras adjust for intensity. Those areas above the hoodline are much brighter than they were stock though it may not look significant in the pics. And glare is subjective. Since there is no real cut-off, it's not yes or no but rather how much glare.

Again, not trying to shoot down your low budget HID kit since the results would be the same not matter which kit you chose. Just throwing my 2 cents in there since nobody else has.

I look forward to your 430 retrofit. I would recommend grinding down/polishing the glass in front of the projector as seen here.

You know I bought these on eBay right? I am not selling them and these are my first pair I have done. My Mazda store uses some that look identical and they cost them $50. The wiring is exactly the same and you can tell the difference in the two.

And for the light, I am just happy I have a "WHITE" light and I can truly see better at night.

As far as the retro fit, I am just going to follow what I read and either that guy got real lucky on centering those or is a math genius as that part scares the crap out of me.

Shane, my post was more for guys like Anthony who want to put HID bulbs into their stock housing and stop at that. The benz guy was not so lucky on the driver's side headlamp but it's still okay.

While were talking about glare and the light pattern, I have a question.

Although the light projection may be scattered, would aiming the lights a little lower reduce the possibiliy of glare?

That's the same kit I ordered and have in hand, the quality looks good so far.

Sweet! any pictures of it? I ordered it this morning with 3 day shipping (to get it here by Friday), then found out they are backed up untill the 3rd and won't ship untill then. I guess I won't be installing them this weekend  :bang:.

When are you installing yours?

That's surprising, they shipped mine out very quick and I had them in a couple days.

Not sure on install, maybe this weekend. I wanted to take the headlights out and polish the glass at the same time.

Yeah, I'm gunna polish up my headlights. They are clean (no haze) but my driver side has dried up dirt in it. I'm going to put warm water in it and slosh it around and hit it with a blow dryer. Clean and lube all the seals and yada yada.

And it helps being on the same coast as them. They have to go from CA to GA. That's about 3500 mikes if I'm not mistaken.

That aint going to work, take it apart and do it the right way or buy another on eBay.

It will help get the larger particles out. I know there will still be a film where the dirt sat. I have no clue on how to open these suckers either. It's not a lot if dirt either, just sits on the bottom and looks a mess

Nah, coast to coast is more like 2500 miles. LA to Atlanta is roughly 2200 miles.

Living on the west coast does has it's advantages, Ground from anywhere in CA gets to me in 2 days.
