Going to document my fan shroud mod. Doing it real-time. I’ve decided to cut it a little higher than middle. This is different from what I’ve read most people have done. I’m hoping it will work out. The purpose of cutting higher is that I’m hoping I won’t have to pull ac thingy and I might be able to slip it off without pulling off the top rad hose. I don’t see a downside to this since you’re really just trying to open up the top and the sides are small enough that they won’t get in the way.

Anyway, that’s my thinking on it.

Taped off the cut line 5.5” from top of square edge (~1/3 the way down):

Look forward to your success with this, be sure to have a bunch of pictures. That AC dryer 'thingy' is indeed a major pain.

When I did my mod I was able to bend the dryer bracket in a way that I 'think' it will be much easier to remove and reinstall the shroud. Haven't tried it yet, but I think so.

You can remove the shroud w/o removing the top hose.

Good luck.

Cut it with cutoff wheel, then flipped it over and fab’d a piece of metal laying around to use for sandwiching the longer horizontal cut edge. Testing the fit here, figuring out how high to go. Same shot, just from different angles:

Made the back pieces of the metal tabs (one on each side) a little longer so as to help guide the top shroud into metal tabs, thus sandwiching the top, hopefully this will make alignment and fitting up easier when removing and putting the shroud back on:

Sweet! I'll be doing this soon.

Drilling holes with 13/64” bit, thru the entire piece, including the 2 metal tabs and the bottom half of the shroud. Pop riveted it together with 3/16 dia rivet that is 1/4” long fits perfect. 1st one shown here, 2 more to go on long edge. These are small enough that if I want to change it, I can just drill them out and do something different.

1st drill hole thru everything:

Tested in the cruiser and won’t need the top hose removed to get the top shroud in place.

Thanks to all those who have posted recently their setups. It helped having the pictures, I originally couldn’t visualize it and even thought it might have been cut in the other direction! LOL but I’m sure I’m not alone in that!

Well done! Something I should get around to, you've made it look easy..

Excellent. Good job!

Swapping out a radiator and about to do this mod. Any updates? Anything you'd do different? Thanks for the writeup!
Just chop it in half and stick it back on. Nothing fancy necessary other than paint. @evilorgoodtwin hasnt been online in months. I did mine tho and didn’t add any fancy brackets like some have. It goes on and off just fine. No rattles w/o a special bracket.

lol, I think the same thing when I read threads like this. Making more work for themselves for no gain.

THANK YOU!!! I'm doing a cooling system refresh and have seen some of these threads, and I'm always thinking "Why do you need any kind of bracket? Just cut it and bolt that damn thing back in!"
