Good write up, thanks for that Phil. Bummer to hear the filler necks are NLA. I guess used it is for me then. Unless for some odd reason I am able to source a new one via my secret site in Japan.

I had an aux tank in my Tacoma. For the same reasons I want one in the 80. Range sucks. The Taco I got total onboard fuel up to 38gals which pushed my range over 500 miles. I really liked it a lot. I didn't use a duel filler neck, don't think they make one for a Taco. I had the tank made by a guy I know who does SS and aluminum work. It mounted where the stock spare goes and fit perfect, all 19.5gals of it. Basically the same set up as your Cruiser, I even cut the aux tank to main tank filler tube the same as you did here on your Cruiser. Transfer from aux tank to main tank. Is this how Toyota did it on Cruisers with the factory aux tank? Meaning, was the factory aux tank just a transfer tank?

Taking note on the Holly blue pump. When I did the Taco I got the highest flow pump I could find. It was only about 90gals/hr.

I had one issue with the Taco aux tank and wondering if it is an issue to be expected on the Cruiser too. That was, I could over pressurize the main tank with the aux tank. For example, driving down the road, main tank at 1/2, I would move 1/2 of the aux tank to main, don't like the weight behind the rear axle so would try to move the fuel forward asap. Took awhile to move the fuel so if I spaced out on it, it would overfill the main tank. Gas would pour out the main tank filler neck when I did this. At least one time (if not 3-4x) it pressurized the main tank to the point that the truck started to run bad. Truck would stutter. Pretty sure I was over pressurizing the fuel system. Down shift, rev it high, run it that way for a few miles and burn off excess fuel and it would go back to normal. Any ways, just curious if the Cruiser set it will do the same?

Cheers

RMP&O:

The factory OEM petrol functionality is that the subtank transfers fuel to the main tank since the main tank is the only one that has the high pressure pump from the EFI fuel system.

The dual neck filler has 2 outlets and 2 vent lines, one each for the main and sub. So, there's no way to overpump the main tank, it would just pour down the line with least resistance.

With the 2 vent lines the 'pressure' in both tanks is always the same...

One good reason to have the dual neck filler...

cheers,
george.

Thanks for the write up and info!

The Gates 23964 hose is for the main filler lines, right? What size fuel hose do I use for the vent lines?

Ah understood.

I had an idea: so instead of the fuel flowing from aux tank to main tank via main tank breather line.

Why can you just fill the main tank. Then use a switch to pump 14 gallons to the aux tank. Fill the main tank back up the 14 gallons that was sent to the aux tank. Then trigger the switch again to send the gas back into the main tank.

This is what I thought of if I couldn't get a dual filler neck

sorry for the nob questions but will the spare tire still fit in its oem location with the sub tank? and what are other viable options to spending 130 on a fuel pump (holly blue) or is this not a good place to get skimpy. ? lastly how did you wire the auxiliary fuel pump up. i cringe at the thought of hacking into factory wires with out knowing exactly what I'm doing. thanks

the sub tank replaces the spare tire, no room left for a tire wit the sub tank in place.

Incorrect for the factory sub tank. The factory subtank sits *ABOVE* the spare tyre.

cheers,
george.

I've been curious if a factory subtank will fit above the crossmember of a 4x4Labs rear bumper.

Thanks Phil!

No.

Hmm. I studied my wife's at some length and It looked like a no-go. I'll have to look again then. Hers won't for sure because of the way the exhaust is routed but that, of course, can be changed.

Wait, yours has a 4x4 Labs on it, no? Well then of course it fits.....:slap:

I have a 4x4 Labs rear bumper so Im quit sure
You can also fit a Long Range aux tank with a Labs bumper

Damn all you guys and your ability to fab things on the fly! I just read the Mud and watch youtube vid when I need to fix something and sometimes I can pull it off (all the while sweating buckshot!)

Thanks for all the info Phil, george_tlc, and cruiserdan, another **** thread.
