ok went to this guy i have know about for some time now does good work. he looked at the cruiser and quoted me $215 for a cat back exhaust with flow master. i asked him about cutting and turning the cats as well he said total $230 does this sound like a goood price? it seems reasonable to me how ever im thinking maybe i wanna so a single cat now too? any of u with the single cats out there have any opinions? is this going to be too loud?

thanks mike

price wise that is pretty good for a custom job

If you are worried about loud, you do not want a flowmaster. I have had good luck with Gibson, nice tone, quiet and they use chambers instead of fiberglass packing so the mufflers last forever.

That beats what any of the a-clowns want around here for anything. Looks like I'm back to fabbing up my own.

Cary,

Does the Gibson eliminate the famous "whistle" sound?

Ali

I got a Borla cat back system from Performance Products for $389.00. Stainless Steel, No whistle , nice tone and life time warrantee. In fact they are replacing the muffler section as the front hanger broke. Haven't got it yet but they were real pleasant on the phone and never asked anything about the breakage just wanted a copy of my receipt to be sure I was the original owner.

Phil,

I'm very interested in seeing how you mounted the rear resonator back in the vehicle in such a way that's offroad friendly. Do you have a pic to share by any chance? I was going to have a muffler shop reinstall the resonator for me today, if they're open on this holiday.

Thanks.

Phil, I know next to nothing about exhaust. The only thing I really know is that I don't enjoy working with it. What I meant about issues is doesn't the 3" create a lack of backpressure which is bad?

Other than that, please at least through some dirt under your truck. It is way too spotless :D

Phil,

What is the model/p/n for the resonator? It's a nice size. Thanks for the pic...helps out a bunch. Did you install the resonator because of the whistle (with Flowmaster) or was there another reason?

Ali

who keeps their truck that clean? sheesh!

That is real cheap. Are you going to run into issues turning the cats with heat on the edge of the body?

Eric,

I have turned my cats sideways and there aren't any heat issues that I can tell. On a real long trip the entire pass side of the truck gets warm as before! But the clearance afforded is very nice.

I had a custom job put on my rig..got a flow master. it was SO loud....plus the sound seemed to be magnified..i believe because of the open cargo area.. it drove me nutzz on long trips.

so..I took it off..

my 2 cents

Ali –
Sorry don’t have a p/n
The resonator was installed at the same time as the rest of the exhaust

Junk-
I don’t think backpressure is a problem only because 1- I have a S/c 2- It too quiet to not have some
As for dirt I live in AZ all we have is dust :flipoff2:

Dan-
See Junk

Fish-
My fan makes is almost as loud as the exhaust I think the resonator is the trick. I have Flowmasters (V8) on my 40 and the conversion ends when you start it.

Phil

i had a flowmaster put on my '91, along with the resonator behind it -- no noise at all -- I think it's the config. you choose that makes the difference --

I believe the whistle is caused by the stock rear resonator, but don't quote me on that. I think there was a thread about it a while ago. Just make sure you check and lube the muffler bearings so you know that that it is the resonator causing the whistle and not the bearings needing lube.
