Ok, after falling asleep at the wheel while doing 65 mph down the highway the other night, then doing some spontaneous wheeling alongside the road, my exhaust is now worse than ever and needs replacing - pretty much the whole thing.

It's a 97 beater with supercharger if that makes any difference.

OEM is out - sorry Cdan - just no way to afford it.

Went to Midas - their quote was $3,200 :o

Went to Meineke - their quote was $2,600 :o

Everyone is telling me that you can't use the discount converters or use generic O2 sensors because of the OBDII.

That makes no sense as surely others have replaced their exhaust with after market prior to me. :princess:

I absolutely have to do this on the cheap and as of right now, my O2 sensor appear to be working ok.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas other than punting?

Junk go with the ones from discount converter (TOY3270 rear and TOY3280 front)as it says NO GO for cali but were hanging on the right coast :D
I just put a set on the :princess: truck and worked real well .
As for the rest of the exhaust you should be able to get a good price from a local shop and have it custom made
I have a good shop down here who Ive had done my 40 with cat and all for $350
Put the cats on yourself and the front 02 sensor then have the rest fabbed up and have them put in a bung for the rear o2 or use that part from your old junk :D

You pretty sure about that? I think I have to cut the downpipe and do something from there. If I do this then it will be within the next few days and I may ask for a number to your guy down there. So much for having enough money for a new welder now.

nope the front bolts right to the manifold (look at the part #s :slap: ) and go from there. You will need new gaskets (2) at the manifold and one between the 2 converters

That pipe that comes down from the manifold is like $1,900 since it includes the first cat. You saying that Discount Coverter can get me that too?

You need to remember when talking to me you gotta dumb it down quite a bit :D

yep it comes with the front pipe
if you look up your truck and click on the part # it will show you a crappy pic with the pipe on it

Junk. I suggest a parts quote from Cdan. IIRC the whole exhaust from the manifold to the tip of the tailpipe is about 1800us. Don't forget to get new rubber blocks and nuts as the studs just snap off on removal.
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sean, but no 1,800 sitting around here. Mee needum cheapum.

Koffer may just find that his has been hacked off :D Notice no w there. :flipoff2:

Try http://oxygensensors.com. They list generic 4 wires sensors for the LC for $70 each that are suitable for both before and after the cat. You will need to soldier in the old OEM connectors for the generic sensors to work. They also carry oxygen sensors with OEM connectors for $105 if you do not want to cut/soldier the OEM connectors.

My understanding is that almost all the oxygen sensor are generic, with the only difference being the older style 2 wire and the newer 4 wire styles.

How about just turning the pipes up and running straight exhaust right through the hood  I'll trade you my exhaust for your working fuel delivery system :flipoff2:

BK, I'd only run the pipes through the hood if I could have flames shooting out. Then again, with my truck, that may already be a given. :flipoff2:

Ok, well, I'm going to take the same approach I took when buying tires. I will buy this crap then figure out how to make it fit.

I sympathize with the needum cheapum. I recently had a cat back setup put on my '94. If I recall it was ~$240 and included a Dynomax Hemi turbo muffler, too bad the 70 Flowmaster wouldn't fit. At any rate the discount cats place has them cheap for your year.

I need to replace my front pipes before too long and was curious if the 95 & up setup will work on the older rigs (plug the aft O2 port of course).

Kris

I just got new O2 from Dan and they were cheaper than aftermarket ones.
Are your cats rebuildable? KC converters of something like that (do a search) can rebuild them or call a JUNK yard and get some used ones.

Junk what about the oil loss? Did you figure that out yet?

Any competant exhaust shop should be able to bend up some pipes and run a magnaflow muffler pretty cheap- maybe $500?

But I live in Iowa, everything is cheap here.

junk, sorry to hear of your woes no offence but maybe you should start over with a new donor vehicle. With what you could get for the supercharger and not spend on an exhaust, plus the push pull drag trade in on your 97, I'm thinking you coudl get yourself a decent high mileage 93 :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Wrench - yeah the oil loss was due to a cracked lip near my oil filter. Took care of that, but I'm thinking it must have been a heck of jolt to do that.

Semlin - I don't foresee myself ever being desperate enough to drive a crap 93 :flipoff2:

I can't remember but I found a complete exhaust for my 91 cheap online. I think it was $579 with both cats. BOSAL is an aftermarket exhaust company. If you go to your local non franchised exhaust shop and ask to look at their BOSAL catalog they will probably have what you need.

For the prices you are quoted you could have your Cruiser shipped to Idaho and back and have a new exhaust installed here. I paid $252 for a custom bent exhaust from the cats back.

I just paid $69 for a generic cat. i had to cut the pipe just after the 1st o2. 2.5 inch OD worked great. If I were to put an aftermarket custonm bent exhaust on, I would cut the chunk out of the pipe for the 2nd O2 and weld it in as well as Toyota uses goofy two bolt O2 sensors rather than the screw in Bosch ones. Anyone that could bend a pipe can weld in the new stuff. the only problems would be if they refuse to do work around the cats. If you have a problem or you are above 80K miles, I think they are allowed to work on it in most places.

dang the PRK...
so what now? can't use generic? would they find out?
