I have an FJ45 and it came with an engine crank handle so I have been researching the handles since I got my truck.

Others on the forum have stated how useful the engine crank handle is for turning the engine to get TDC and wanted to know where to get one for this purpose, but they are hard to find.

I just happened to discover that the crank handle out of a 90's Mazda B-series truck is very similar to the Land Cruiser engine crank handle. I was looking for crank handles to other jacks that I bought and found this one in a 1990 Mazda truck. I was not sure if iot came with the truck or if someone had just threw it in there so I saw that the scrap yard had a '92 Mazda truck so I went today to see if it had the same handle...it did!

The handle does not appear to be as large as the Cruiser engine crank handle (I have never seen one in person), but from what I have learned, the shorter, actual, engine crank handle is about 6 inches shourter than the longer, spare tire/engine crank handle, which is 40.5", so it would be about 34.5" long. This one measures about 30.5" overall.

Approximately 3" shorter than the LC hand crank.

The end appears to be the same as the LC hand crank

This is about 7" on the LC hand crank, so that makes up the overall difference of 3"

The LC hand crank is 12" so this is about 4" shorter, less leverage if you actually wanted to try to start your engine with it.

Fits like a glove! (No, I did not try to start my engine!)

HAPPY HUNTING! :D

Be sure to clean and lube the flywheel nut before you start your 45... :D

Kickback can be a b__ch!

Somebody had a video of him starting his cruiser with a crank. It was pretty cool.

Search may be able to turn it up.

Don't you need an alignment dealio on the bumper?

It is very similar to the 850mm LC crank, the only part shorter, in length, seems to be the part you grab onto.

I don't think I will ever try and use this one for starting.

I'm looking for the 1005mm for my truck, then maybe...

remember face out of the way, fingers AND THUMBS under that bar and be ready for kickback in case it happens. You will see a lot of people starting cars with hand cranks on you tube that grab the car and rotate the engine leaning over, a backfire would kill them. IDave's video is the way to do it.

Last I heard the 1005mm crank handle was still available. The shorter one was discontinued. I picked one up for my FJ45. Not for starting the engine but plan on installing a FJ55 spare tire carrier and want the longer handle. Could probably use the jack handles but the 45 has a spot to store the heavy crank handle as well as the jack handles so it just make sense to get the longer handle.

I checked my local dealer earlier this year and the handle is NLA according to them. I have seen other posts as well that state this. I think the handle may have been available as late as 2012, but not anymore.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I need one.

The jack crank with the hook can be used to lower the spare tire, but the hook part does not fit straight into the slot on the frame as it is too wide. You have to fish the hook part in there but once you do, it will crank down the tire. With that said, I wonder why Mr. Yota would not have just made the slot wider and dispensed with the engine crank handle altogether.

Toyota changed the design sometime around 1980 to work. All the three piece rods for the 60/62 work and I have set of longer 40 series two piece rod that is narrower to work in the spare tire carrier. Maybe it was design change for the troopies?:meh:

As for when Toyota discontinued the longer crank hanger I was going off what I have read here. I bought mine many years ago.

they are simple to make 3/4 " bar stock a vise some heat to bend then drill and install the dowel .ive had several people make them using some i have for patterns .i also made one and welded it to a 3/4 drive socket so when the rad is out i can spin the motor however its pretty short, but works good for finding the timing mark or tdc .

I know that the bar would be easy to make, but if you can go to the local Pick'n'Pull and grab a similar one out of a '90's Mazda truck, why not.

Start looking in Mazda's Sarge!

here is the one you could get from Toyota maybe 10 years ago

HoffLarr, it's far easier to use the bump method mentioned by JimC. Put the cruiser in 4th gear and gently bump the cruiser backwards as you watch the window for the line on the crank to come into position. Works great. I'm sure you can find a more detailed writeup of the method, but that's the jist. Good luck.

I'm looking for the longer Toyota one not for maintenance purposes but because it was standard equipment on my truck when new.

I'm only picking these up because the opportunity keeps presenting itself.

If someone wants to buy one just PM me. I never offered because these seem to be readily available (90's Mazda B-series truck) and I am located in Canada, so shipping may be a deal killer.

Had the need to get to TDC after a distributer change. Quick shop project to make a "Service Tool". Didn't see your post before making, but appears to be the same concept.
