Hello developed a rattle from my engine cover; tried to adjust the bolts etc but is this cover really needed? is it fluff?? I don't live in south west or texas so dust is not a problem where I live. anyone remove this a run for a long time??

I wonder, is it any louder in the cabin with it off?

It is noticeably louder in the cabin IMO. If you have no need to remove it for accessories, I'd personally recommend leaving it. You can put a lot of stuff in the engine bay without having to remove it.

I notice zero difference with it removed. Maybe there's an exhaust leak or something it's muffling. Driving the LX with it and the LC without they're the same. Just a large piece of showroom glitter IMO.

Same here soundwise. If I used a mechanic I might have it left on, however doing all my own work I prefer it off as it's one less thing to deal with on a repair. I also regularly inspect under the hood for issues and having it all covered up doesn't make sense to me for that either.

i have had it off for several months but doing an oil change I seen it in my garage and thought about putting it back. So I just wanted to throw the question to others that have had it off. I did not notice any louder engine noise in cabin.

I have 2 cluttering up the garage, notice no difference. People who pay 75 grand for a new ride don't want to look at a freaking internal combustion engine full of wires, hoses, and components. They want it to look sleek. Like there was something other than the same-ol', same-ol' under there. Granted, an awesomely reliable same-ol', but still... :meh: It must look mysterious and daunting, else they might actually change their own oil or something similarly heinous, thereby cutting off a revenue stream...

I like to splash through mud puddles every now and again when wheeling (I must have an inner Jeep guy in there somewhere :D).

When it comes time to clean the engine bay after a run, I think it's much easier to clean off the engine cover than it is to clean the bare engine.

Just my 2 cents.

No difference, on or off, with a calibrated HP sound level meter.

Of course the dirt still gets in under it, duh!

Maybe the volume difference I'm hearing a placebo effect. It may not be "louder" but sounds "different" to me at least.

It could be much worse.

Plus, think of how much easier it is to cook food using engine heat without the cover getting in the way. Manifold Destiny baby!

Good point, I have warmed a few tamales, burritos, and pizza slices on my easily accessible manifolds.

bluecruiser, how about a sweet sponsor prize for the most pimped out engine cover at 100's in the hills 4? I've been working on mine and I already have the first 8 coats of base on it for the mural painter to work over. Neon accent lighting for the cover should be in later this week. Woot!

It keeps in a lot of heat. Better to remove it than subject the wires (like those going to the coilpacks) and hoses underneath from baking for years on end.

I recently changed my plugs and did a few other things got lazy and didn't put it back on-not giving it another thought. Now am curious as to if there is a difference in cabin noise or not and to satisfy my curiosity I am going to have to experiment. OCD + LC + mud = what my wife calls an obsession.
