Well the truck finally moves under its own power. I finally got a whole day to work on it this holiday weekend, and things went great. Finished up some loose ends rigged up a quick shifter and i took her around the block. Have'nt put steering stops back on after SOA so i had to take it easy, think i may have bent one of the felt retaining rings, small causality. Been working on a twin stick shifter for my splitcase, similar to the one built by orangefj45 here on mud (thanks for the idea, hope you dont mind). I had the tcase in 2wd low range so trans shifted a bit off but all in all things went ok. I know this post is useless without pics so i'll try to get pics/video posted soon. I also will update my shopping list for anyone interested in doing a similar swap.

SIDE NOTE: Pending compleation I think :princess: is interrested in a road trip later this coming summer/early fall after this weekend, she finally sees the light at the end of the money tunnel. Wonder if there are any cruiserheads out there we could hang out with on the way out west.

Not necessarily, you could potentially run a camaro pan to gain clearance for front diff, but it would be close. have also seen guys mod the pan to gain the clearance needed just have to consider the oil pickup location and decrease in oil capacity

I had some extra marine app. fiberglass tubing left over at work (hydrogen fuel cell plumbing). I believe was 3" i.d. Knew that the stock tune on a LSx engine requires a 40 pulse per rev signal to output the correct wave form for the ecm to interpret that to properly shift the transmission. So i hunted on McMaster for a while and found something that i liked. Had to be steel and wanted something robust enough to make me feel better about what i was doing, In retrospect i probally should have lightened it up a bit more but it works well so it'll do. anyways got the timing gear (post part number later, if anyone is interrested i could make a thread for a DIY VSS fix) and also had some extra garolite left over at work to make the flange. Epoxied the sleeve and the flange together. bolted it up to check fitment, then began to posistion the hole for the sensor. The business end of the VSS needs to be a specific distance from the gear (timing pulley in this instance) 0.020" ~ 0.040" for the proper signal to be generated. Made a housing to hold the sensor and fiberglassed it into place. Need to cap the sleeve yet but for a proof of concept it's not bad. I may make another out of steel since i already created the dwg/CAM for the flange would require much and could be done on the cheap.

i believe :princess: says it has something to do with going to work with banged up hands. It seems all the other engineers at work like to sit on their A$$ all weekend and not get their hands dirty.

finally got to use the tubing bender over the weekend and made my trans mount. also been working on my instrument panel and couldnt help but take a couple pics of the current project cars at the shop

I bet the vette sounds nice ...running through the gears with a 427.
 
How did you attach the gear (reluctor ring) to the shaft? Did you thread the bore?

threads would have been nice just didnt take the time to do it. i opted to use the set screws in the pulley set screws (x3) and some semi perm locktite should be more than it needs to hang tight.
