I bet bamboo takes over down there! It sounds like a good mechanic might have a following for those who want quality.

fuel primer failure today. let pressure bleed off the rail and pump. much walking for parts/tools. glad it was at home and not somewhere random.

went and chased tools for the ac service today. managed to launch my driver exterior handle during so. luckily the stealer had one in stock.

i also learned today the r12 fittings are indeed different sizes. (guess i should have just assumed this :bang: )

turns out, at least one, ac issue is the low side schrader pissing. which is uber annoying considering i requested they all be replaced when i had the dealer look at it. hoping i can just use a standard schrader on the high side too, when my bits eventually get here.
went ahead and ordered r134 fittings as well.
speaking of, apparently the international hose fittings are different than the ones we're familiar with in the states. glad i bought these for no reason 🤣

I’m curious about the different shader port sizes and thread pitches. Pics?

im not really old enough to have messed with r-12 systems. i did a couple of retro fits in school. (03-05)
at first glance they look the same, and maybe some are...
either way this is a known toyota thing i guess.
low is a 7/16, high is 3/8
like i said, i just bought retro fit r134 ends because I imagine the r12 adapter is impossible to find.
your parts numbers at RA, but i assume these should be available at any parts house.

had some more hard starting this morning. temp was pretty "cool" lots of rain.
glows all were bad. not sure if this is a fail from the long cranking issue the other day or just aged out. probably age. cleaned all the crud off the shared rail as well.
test fire was quick.
will see in the days to come.
got my registration today.
little bit of nonsense with the title transfer. hopefully will resolve easily tomorrow.
no pics. sorry. not really much to show.

I've had some cold diesels lately. Thick oil, cold engine, cold batteries amd maybe some cable issues combined with the 19-20 degree mornings..

The process for charging R12 systems isn't really any different than R134A. Main difference is that you use mineral oil in the compressor/drier versus Pag Oil and it runs at a much lower pressure. I was actually able to find some R12 here in Tucson and charged my FJ60 with it and it blew colder than any R134A system I've had, including the brand new one I put on my 87 years ago.

If you can find some R12, I'd just refill it with that and call it a day. Any R134A retrofit is going to require you to change the expansion valve on top of adding the adapters on the compressor.

If you want I'd be happy to send you the gauge system I made to charge my FJ60 - it still has a can of R12 on it lol, not sure how customs would like it though...

appreciate it. i bought all new stuff. should see it shortly. i kind of assume this system is polluted and mixed af. figured id be ahead just starting over.
new denso pump, dryer and valve. aftermarket condenser and evap core.
i have gauges, vacuum pump and freezon ready to go.

Very interesting on the foreign R12 fittings, especially that they are different for the high and low sides. Domestically speaking, all refrigeration service fittings were 1/4” flare including automotive. X2 on R12 being a superior refrigerant. It is super efficient as it takes way less energy to complete the refrigeration cycle which makes it excel in automotive applications. I need one of those can tap adapters @yotadude520, where did you get that? I have a few old cans I found but never knew what was needed to piece the can.

I made mine with a bunch of stuff I got on eBay and it worked great - here's some links:

i finally received all my parts from the states. i ended getting the wrong txv... so i ordered one from the dealership here.
pulled out the evap box today after properly discharging the system, allegedly.
in typical fashion the part i received from the stealer is incorrect. mispackaged. :bang:
cant imagine why this core was so weak...
of course on the weekend so now im out until at least Tuesday on the correct valve. maybe longer depending on the inventory situation.
might be faster to order from the states. we will see come Monday.
we did get a real shipping situation figured out, so that's nice.
broke down and bought a tool set in the meantime. finding extensions and deep sockets here is a debacle.
this will make a good truck box when my real shyt eventually arrives.

i did also receive the mc inner seals and bits for that job. will get to that shortly as well. might just suck it up and start working after the sun goes down since everyone is up late here anyway, it won't be bothering anyone 😂

That's got to be tough not having your stuff..

went and chased parts today.
dealer refunded my money. they quoted 45-50 days for another 😂 ya. no.

went and grabbed another door lock assembly for my driver door. the rattle is making me crazy.

when I arrived to retrieve the parts i was thrilled to find said surf on top of this container. 😱

was hoping for a better pull. apparently I need to be quicker on these ads. all three rigs i looked at today were pilfered. i did score this clinometer though.

that and finally getting up close to these rigs, the rhd drive conversion is super sketch with the rhd steering boxes james rigged onto the lh frame....
my phone was pissed off from the heat and I couldn't get a pic. sorry. 😂

I guess I missed why you're down there?

door lock changed.

old one wallered out. other one from the doors i got earlier had already been modificated...

no fighting with the lock rod this time.

dc and 4runner share front doors, where regular and extra cab doors are several inches longer.

41 vs 44.5. also looks like the handle is slightly higher on the big door, (~5mm) which explains the rod issue.
