I bet bamboo takes over down there! It sounds like a good mechanic might have a following for those who want quality.

im not really old enough to have messed with r-12 systems. i did a couple of retro fits in school. (03-05)I’m curious about the different shader port sizes and thread pitches. Pics?

at first glance they look the same, and maybe some are...
either way this is a known toyota thing i guess.
low is a 7/16, high is 3/8
like i said, i just bought retro fit r134 ends because I imagine the r12 adapter is impossible to find.
your parts numbers at RA, but i assume these should be available at any parts house.

appreciate it. i bought all new stuff. should see it shortly. i kind of assume this system is polluted and mixed af. figured id be ahead just starting over. The process for charging R12 systems isn't really any different than R134A. Main difference is that you use mineral oil in the compressor/drier versus Pag Oil and it runs at a much lower pressure. I was actually able to find some R12 here in Tucson and charged my FJ60 with it and it blew colder than any R134A system I've had, including the brand new one I put on my 87 years ago.
If you can find some R12, I'd just refill it with that and call it a day. Any R134A retrofit is going to require you to change the expansion valve on top of adding the adapters on the compressor.
If you want I'd be happy to send you the gauge system I made to charge my FJ60 - it still has a can of R12 on it lol, not sure how customs would like it though...

Very interesting on the foreign R12 fittings, especially that they are different for the high and low sides. Domestically speaking, all refrigeration service fittings were 1/4” flare including automotive. X2 on R12 being a superior refrigerant. It is super efficient as it takes way less energy to complete the refrigeration cycle which makes it excel in automotive applications. I need one of those can tap adapters @yotadude520, where did you get that? I have a few old cans I found but never knew what was needed to piece the can.
That's got to be tough not having your stuff..i finally received all my parts from the states. i ended getting the wrong txv... so i ordered one from the dealership here.
pulled out the evap box today after properly discharging the system, allegedly.
in typical fashion the part i received from the stealer is incorrect. mispackaged.
cant imagine why this core was so weak...
of course on the weekend so now im out until at least Tuesday on the correct valve. maybe longer depending on the inventory situation.
might be faster to order from the states. we will see come Monday.
we did get a real shipping situation figured out, so that's nice.
broke down and bought a tool set in the meantime. finding extensions and deep sockets here is a debacle.
this will make a good truck box when my real shyt eventually arrives.
i did also receive the mc inner seals and bits for that job. will get to that shortly as well. might just suck it up and start working after the sun goes down since everyone is up late here anyway, it won't be bothering anyone

you make your own bed. or something. That's got to be tough not having your stuff..
the short story is, the states were no longer working for me. the long story would likely get me the black handI guess I missed why you're down there?
