alrighty then.

basically need a little cleanup. put the brakes and lockout back on. clean up this disgusting wheel.

i may hold off on the other side because this job is so much damn fun 😂

alright. all buttoned up. cleaned the excess grease out of the passenger lockout while making sure it wasn't puking.
did a tire rotation and rear brake inspect. scrubbed up all the wheels.

little bit of tech.
front brakes are vented. i assume these are the 60 disc with the 4 large piston ifs style calipers. not 100% sure as these seem slightly thinner. part numbers don't match the lc disc either.
rear brakes use the large ifs style drum setup, but still using sa length shafts with the larger center hub bit.
(by ifs im refering to torsion bar usa trucks)

yes i painted over that stupid ass red center 😂
spray bomb cost me $2.25
guy about shyt when i told him theyre 10$ in the states...

edit.
the disc is the 60
https://www.ks-international.com/to.../brake-disc-front-vented-300-mm-diameter.html
hilux is 43512-35170
lc 60 is 43512-60040

for some reason Toyota uses special numbers for lc, even when the parts are identical. vs just using the same numbers like they do say for tacoma and camry.....
That’s really odd, is it a generally a Land Cruiser thing to have special part numbers or just a thing with these brakes? In either case it’s weird…

there's not really a ton of hilux/lc overlap but ive found 3-4 parts that should be the same and arent.

it looks like Toyota uses different part numbers by market as well.
ive been trying to source the choke/idle up cable by my part number. no love as its disco. i found the part in the euro market by a different number.
for those that don't know, Toyota subbed to vw for a minute. their version is known as the Taro. the number vw uses crosses directly to the toyota books. well not directly but basically.

Nice investigation work. Pretty sad how much they gouge us North Americans. I've bought OEM Toyota parts cheap from Arabic countries before but now I am not finding those sites...

partsouq, anamaya and yoshiparts.com
there are some na dealers that are fair.
my local dealer is pretty proud.
for example the tvx here was 104$. i paid like 69$ from the states.(wheeler)
so even with paying shipping twice, it'll still be cheaper, and faster.

What?! Yoshiparts is new to me. Thanks for the page. I'll check them out next time I need parts for the old junk.

Also gonna throw in Megazip and ToyoPartsDeal. ToyoParts is based in the states and somehow got me parts from a warehouse in Arizona that I wasn’t able to find through any other vendor or Toyota dealers after months of searching.

I would avoid Toyota parts deal. Saying they have horrible customer service would suggest that they have customer service…. buyer beware

Plenty of other discount options out there. No need to settle.

my correct tvx arrived today. was ordered and shipped on the 25th, so that gives you an idea of shipping time, from the west coast.

tore the rest of the junk out today. turns out the pump had also been eating itself, so im glad i went to all new bits.
got everything on the exterior dealt with. need to finish assembly of the evap box. im going to rewire and properly attach the condenser fan.
might actually have functional air by tomorrow afternoon.
the condenser fit was ok... really would have liked a denso. but such is life. still just constantly bewildered by people's inability to copy available parts.
in hind sight it might have been worth chasing all the r134 parts, since this mission has taken months anyway :bang:
hopefully this will be the last time I have to touch or think about this system for a long while 🤣

so the old fan wouldn't fit...of course. it wasn't the correct oem part anyway.
i went ahead and finished up. dodged a bullet with a crossthreaded fitting. it was a massive leak. simple removal and it went back together properly. thankful the al is forgiving.
pulled and held vacuum. took a charge and now i have nice cold air.
pump does cycle stuff.
it's possible it could be a hair low on charge but im going to rock it and be sure there's no stupid fitting leaks or anything.
will be a good test Friday going back to the city.
also waiting on a condenser fan.
not super hot here today, like 75 vs the 100 it has been.
