SouthBostonFj,

Any contact with Eshan regarding top order? Has the order been placed, or are you waiting to see how to handle shipping and the cost involved? Thanks again for all the time and effort.

Thanks Dave

The order has been placed and we are looking at a manufacturing time of about 10 weeks. Not sure on shipping yet.

Great news, thanks for the update.

Yhea let's hope the election over there goes smoothly today or it might be 10 months before we see them....doesn't sound too good right now.

Kinda off topic but... did anyone see any performance noticeable performance gains when they took their hard tops off? I am thinking shedding a couple hundred pounds will be noticeable.

Well, that's all relative. My top is off, but factor back all the other crap i've added on to my truck and it's a net sum game when compared to a bone stock 40. :meh: Np top and my aluminum body helps I'm sure. With the top off, gas mileage stays about the same, death wobble is still there.:bang: I do notice the shift in the center of gravity with the top off, gets all that weight off from up high.

Like I said above...let's wait and see if the 17% was a total charge or on top of shipping.

PM you last night with details. The 17% was collected off the total price of the individual orders and used to cover the cost of shipping from Pakistan to USA, customs and surprise fees.

Summary:

Total Collections (13 buyers): $12,360.65
-Advance payment: $5,065.00
-Final payment: $5,545
-Shipping Pakistan to N.O., USA: $1,500
Account Balance: $260.65

On arrival to USA (New Orleans)
Warehouse Facility Chrg: $50
Customs Inspection Fee/Tax $150
Delivery of the 2 containers to the customs exam site:
$183.61
Daily storage charges after first few days free (which they cut in half to 5days): $60
Uhaul Cargo Van Rental: $25

Total Local charges: $468.61

Overall Balance: $468.61 - $260.65 = $207.96 shortfall

Since the size of individual orders varied between buyers, each buyer was asked to cover their share of the $207. 96 shortfall based on their % contribution to the total value of the order. Multiplying the $207.96 shortfall x the % contribution of each buyer gave the following $ amounts:

5%-->$10.40
7%-->$14.56
8%-->$16.64
11%-->$22.88
12%-->$24.96

So,

if Joe Blow paid $700 for a soft top kit, and his order was 7% of the total, he had to add $115.50 (17% of order value) to his payment on the front end, plus $14.56 (7% of shortfall) on the back end to cover short fall, for a total cost of $830.06 to bring the top kit to a designated USA port after customs, taxes, etc.

Then Joe would also have to pay about $10 to cover cost of repackaging his soft top kit and somewhere about $106 to $235, depending where he is located relative to where the shipment is located, to have it forwarded via UPS to Eastern, Central or Western USA zones, the fee being based on distance from zip code of origin to zip code of destination on a 2-days in transit service. Those in California would pay a total of ~ $1,100 delivered to their front door from Boston, while those in Virginia would pay about $940 by the end of the day for a complete soft top kit.

Hope this helps...

Well, that sounds reasonable. I was pretty sure that 17% was for all shipping, etc. It looks like we are working it a bit differently with add on costs, but all in all, it will be what we expected.

I'm getting ready for the soft top :)

Addendum

In the process of shipping boxes to buyers in our group, I opened an account with UPS so I could print labels and schedule pick-ups at my house.

Interestingly, when you are creating a shipment, it gives you cheaper options to ship by ground all the way than the two options by air you get when looking for quotes on their website.

So, what was a by air quote for 2-day in-transit service to TX for ~$106 became $20+ dollar rate by ground. This allows me to insure the package for it's full value of $850 for an additional $8 and still come way ahead of the game.

So the shipping rates I posted on earlier entry can be reduced significantly for those who do not mind having it shipped by ground, with the added benefit of insurance for full value.

R.

$20-$50 for ground to SoCal sounds way better than $235....besides what's a couple more days on top of 3 months.

Have you guys looked at using UPS Trade Direct. Might be just what you are looking for.

Ehsan could box them and take them to a UPS TD location. They get tagged and put on a slow boat. Once they get into the US the get unloaded into the brown truck system and sent out. Might be worth checking out.

soft top

Any chance of placing an order for soft top with the last order that went out? Could send funds asap, prob to late but doesn't hurt to ask.

thanks :bang:

Any more good news out there, SouthBostonFJ, Ehsan?????

So what's in stock, what's not, how much has to be built, are things going okay with Ehsan and company?? Just curious how things were proceeding.

10 weeks puts us in May, slow boat may put us past summer. I'm definetly voting for air at this point.

Accounting Update

Unfortunately, the All-Ways Forwarding bill came today in the mail. Alas, it is for $946.06, or $502.45 more than I had been quoted as posted earlier.

Here is how it actually broke down:

Quoted charges by All-Ways Forwarding:
Facility Chrg: $50 (Actual: $??)
Inspection Fee $150 (Actual: $175.00)
Delivery of the container to the customs exam site: $183.61 (Actual: $208.61)
Storage charges (which they cut in half to5days): $60 (Actual: $60.65)

New Charges in bill:

Outport Entry Fee: $175.00
Delivery from Customs facility back to Averitt: $170.48
Service and Handling: $15
Bonds, preparation & premium: $60.00
Messenger: $25.00
ABI, MID, DAD Fee: $25.00

Total: $946.06

$379 of that was for moving the containers from one warehouse to a Customs facility for inspection and then back because the Customs officials would not pay a visit to the original arrival location. Don't ask me why :mad:
