That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! And the Visulite too. Both awsome venues. A buddy of mine from high school does sound at the Double Door and has done some recording for Larry Kiel and Sam Bush.

Resturants are good too. There's a new one I tried with some folks from work called Table 274. mmmmmm. Oh, and Johnson and Whales runs the dining hall (that's right--it's not a cafeteria) at Providence Day School. It's a private school on the SE side of town. About 25k/year for HS. About 16k for elementary. They have students (that's right--plural) make perfect scores on SAT constantly. Another buddy from college is the band director there. He had blackened cajun salmon for lunch about a week ago in the "dining hall". Sometimes he has sushi.

FM schools aren't like that, but for public schools they're top notch. And are rated better (standardized testing/college acceptance) than most private schools in the area. They're sports are good too. Volleyball lost in the Upper State finals this year but won state last year I think. Softball is state champs, swimming, cross country, baseball are all up there every year. Football isn't great but they did make it to the playoffs this year and lost to Daniel. This is all Nation Ford. I graduated from Fort Mill but haven't paid much attention as my sister just graduated from NF. And, NF and FM marching bands are No. 1 and 2 in the state, respectively. I went to the Rose Parade when I was drum major at FM and NF just got back from Macy's. Big time band town.

I'm surprised you didn't tell him about the Money or the Silver Dollar.:D

Both gone, but they are/were in Rock Vegas and like you said earlier...

The White Horse is still open. Oh and Scandals.

Nah, Rock Hill isn't that bad. I don't think it's any better or worse than Anderson for whatever that's worth. It's a good town. That's where the football schools are. South Point won state this year. Northwestern has won several times and is good every year. RHHigh is back and forth but always finishes with a good season. All that being said, I'd still live in FM if you want to be in SC. Or Clover/Lake Wylie area.

As follow up, I'll take the lazy route and say I agree with most of the in-depth feedback boombaslappy provides, he is spot on with his info including the schools situation. Our 3 month old will very likely end up at PDS or similar since Char-Meck is forever an on-going train wreck.

Of course the main point of contention would be that all of the cool kids who who work in CLT live in FM. We live a few minutes from uptown (yes, CLT calls it uptown instead of downtown) on the SE side near PDS and I wouldn't trade our location for any other, including the lower taxes, cheaper fuel and better free schools to be found south of the border...

And, another bonus you probably haven't even considered yet Steen, is that you'll be less than 90 miles to the best school in the ACC... :grinpimp:

True. If I were going to live IN CLT, it would be the SE side of town--southpark/park rd/ballentyne/mint hill. And, figure out a way to afford private school for the kids.

Thanks for all of the great info!

JP, Kristen got her Clemson degree when she attended VB camp a couple of summers ago. She found her way from the dorm to the courts and that was all they needed to see :D

Had not considered SC (Fort Mill) at all. Didn't really put two and two together that it was that close that a commute was a possibility. I'm not entirely sure if I would move her at this point. Tough to do to a Junior in HS. Possible, but would really have to think that through. Might go the route of getting a cheap studio somewhere and commute up there a couple weeks a month for the two years, and then move... or maybe try to find a foreclosure for a steal and do some fixup during those two years.

Lots to think about. Monday meeting with the company to see if we can work something out. I know they want me... just how much is the question. It's a pretty disruptive time of life for our family to make this kind of move so hoping they realize that and will work with me on options.

More to come... again, thanks for all the advice!

There are a lot of short sale options in the area. Lots of good deals to be found.

This is true ... as everywhere, there are some great real estate deals if you have the cash or the financing ....

!

When we first move to the area we found a condo right off the interstate in Davidson, exit 30...probably a 30 minute commute to Charlotte.

Got some more info. Office will be located in Ballantyne which looks to be very close to Ft Mill and all of the other areas that people are steering me to.

Andy, WF could be on a list for her. We are putting that together now. Emory is top of the pile right now and they are at least indicating a passing interest in her for VB. Still have time to work on that. I told her she would be fine going to a private and/or ACC school like that (she loves the Dawgs) because they don't really play football so she can still root for UGA.

It has been 5 years already?? Wow, time flies!

As you know I live in CLT now and actually lived here early in my childhood as well. For this stint, I've been here almost 15 years so that's probably as good as any indication that I really like it here. Lots of big city amenities without -some- of the downside (traffic, crime, ease of getting around, cost of living, etc.) compared to larger cities (ATL, NY, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Philly, etc). Though I'd disagree with Dan's statement - in general, the public schools are horrible. Too long to detail here but our 16 year old does not go to Char-Meck Schools and our 3 month old won't either.

You appear to have a sizable window for research and due diligence which is good. Contact me directly with any specific questions and of course, let me know if you're here to explore - I'd be happy to show you around and help you get your bearings.

Some on the southside are not that bad, but the school board:eek:

I work in Blakeney just south of 485. Most of the people I know (including myself) moved across the border into SC...much lower taxes and probably better schools (Ft Mill)

I work in Ballantyne and drive through FT Mill from Rock Hill everyday...17 miles, takes about 30 minutes

I work in Ballantyne as well and commute from Indian Land ... (yes, my profile says Fort Mill ... but most folks don't know where that is). When you get up here, maybe we can grab a beverage ....

Sounds like it's a pretty decent place. I just talked to the guy I'm working with on this and there is a slight chance they may locate to Ft Mill... all comes down to which state has the biggest incentives to get their business.

A beverage is definitely on the list when I make a trip up there. I'll ping you when that happens. Not sure when that will be yet. No rush but I have a feeling this might get some legs.

I would have to disagree. It has changed dramatically over the past few years.

Didn't know the Celanese Plant closed in 05. Though that place has to be a major cleanup site. Glad to see it's gone. You still have Bowater on you back door step. Westerly winds which I agree are somewhat rare make the whole town stink of sulfur. While living beside Winthrop the turpentine plant was still cranking out nasty stuff out of those stacks. Is it still in operation?
